Who is Rumi?

Rumi is one of the most widely read poets in the world. But some are critical of the translations of his poetry, and the way he’s portrayed in the West, especially how he’s generally stripped of his Muslim identity. Rumi’s poetry is intense, spiritual and speaks right to the heart. But who is the real Rumi?
