Makita DC18RD Rapid Charger - Dual Port - 18V LXT

This is the newest charger in the Makita lineup, and it is able to charge two batteries at the same time....greatly speeding up your ability to get work done fast!

Each port is putting out 9amps of power to the batteries. To keep things cool, Makita has fans built in the charger that circulates air through the batteries in order to maximize battery life & charge times. Internally the charger even "talks" to the battery to optimize the amount of power flowing into it....and it wont charge until it is safe (i.e. -- if the battery is too hot from extended use, it will allow it to cool down prior to charging).

Also on the front of the unit is a USB port that is "always on", and will charge your cell phone or tablet for added convenience. It is very nice to only need one outlet VS 3 outlets to do the same thing (as two battery chargers & a cell phone charger).

These are going to hit the shelves starting in January 2015, and carry a one year warranty from Makita.

Check out the video to see it for yourself!

I just bought the Makita 14" twin battery chainsaw kit with 2 extra batteries and charger.
Your video showed how to use the charger and the Makita YouTube site didn't!

You can take the 4 rubber feet out and put 8mm dowels on the legs and then mount in 3/4 inch MDF of plywood and then hang that on the wall

I am currently in transition from makita to milwaukee. The only reason why i still use my makitas are the charge times on their batteries, they are super fast . I can get more work done with them. Milwaukee just takes forever.

Great review!

This is the first time I've seen a tool that uses two battery packs. Makes sense since it needs a lot of power to cut through thick wood.

Build your own frigging wall support - I made one from wood, 1/2hr including install. Not a beauty but works.

Can you make each battery have different charge melodies?

My rapid charger broke. The power supply wires developed a loose connection to the board somehow:( Fortunately I had a regular makita charger as backup but it's slow! I might have to pick one of these up I see they are on sale fro $100.

Only thing it further needs is a double AA/AAA battery charger for a maglite mini etc.

What is the standard voltage for this in the US? I'd like a 110v model in the UK but it costs over double the 240v. I've seen people bit higher than the retail cost for second hand ones on eBay too which is completely strange.

Anyone been having issues with this not charging periodically? lately I've been noticing I'll put a battery on and the fan will kick in like always but then after a few seconds it will shut off and my battery will no longer be getting charged.

Hi, I got the same charger and a BL1850 battery! I wanted to use the charger for the first time after the battery was empty but the red light keeps blinking and the battery is not charging at all. I don't know what to do so it can work... Anybody can help a feller out?

Good review, Sir! Do the Makita batteries not have an onboard status indicator? Typically you would show on the battery itself that they were fully depleted. Do you have a review coming up for that monster of a circular saw? As always, thank you for uploading!
