How to upgrade New 3DS SD (MicroSD) Card to 64GB using macOS (OS X)

Just a tutorial video on how to upgrade the MicroSD card in the 3DS to a larger size.

Small correction. 32GB cards do not have to be formatted to FAT32, only cards over 32GB have to be formatted.

Yeah, I just came about this, just as the eshop is about to close next year. I wish I knew this years ago. Silly windows wouldn't let me format anything more than 32gb as FAT32. Glad to know there is software that can fix this!

I did this on my gf's new 2DS that we bought last night. I did the same process but with a regular SD card for the regular 2DS. It worked on a 64 gb SanDisk Ultra Plus (SDXC UHS-I card) on May 15th, 2017.

I will try this on my 3DS today and reply back to let you know it works.

I did everything like shown in the video, I even have the same 64GB SD card, but my 3DS will always say that the card cannot be read. THe original 4GB card works with no problems, so it can't be a problem with the slot.

@jtjdt I've done the EXACT steps that you mentioned, bit only temporarily works.. for like a day, I used the EXACT same sd card as you and it's still having problems. do I need to replace this? please help..

I recently found 1 3DS Game that's Digital Download Only in my Area, However, if I DO wind up Downloading it, I'll be left with over 10, 000 blocks of free space. Which means that if I were to get local updates, I will most likely run out of space.

And on that note, if I don't perform this formatting task, will that affect my Eshop login account?
By this I mean, Will I have to recreate a Nintendo Eshop account, AND re-download the updates for certain Games such as Pokemon X, Y, OR, and AS?

Tried this using the exact same 64gb card u used and I also used windows 7 with mini tool partition software to format in fat32. After putting it in my new 3ds it tries to initialize the Micro SD card but it says SD card not recognized. Will Using a MAC solve this problem?
