Freedom's Safest Place | Carol Bowne

Carol Bowne didn't choose to be utterly defenseless. That choice was made by the state of New Jersey. If you refuse to surrender your humanity to the dictates of your government, speak out. The National Rifle Association does so when defending your rights. The NRA is Freedom's Safest Place.

A weapon is not a guarantee, it's a chance. Self defense is a human right.

Carol should have ignored Jersey's laws and followed the 2nd Amendment - "shall not be infringed".  I live in PA and many a time my job takes me to bordering states - NY, MD, DE, NJ - that do not reciprocate with PA's carry permits.  My job takes me into dubious neighborhoods where I have to enter vacant buildings - many times alone.  If the state I'm in doesn't care if I get home to my wife at night, I certainly do and I am willing to defy their laws to keep myself safe.  It's unfortunate that this woman had to die while waiting for her permit but the rest of us should learn from her tragedy and not become a statistic.  I'd rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6.

Another example of how Chris Christie doesn't understand our bill of rights.

Most people outside of NJ probably don't get a part that was not explained in this video. She was not waiting for a concealed carry permit, rather she was waiting for a permission slip to just be able to buy a gun to keep in her home. Even once she got that she would not have been able to carry the gun as she went around her daily business. The People's Republic of New Jermany (aka New Jersey) only has issued about 1800 carry permits to ordinary citizens. To get one of those you either need to know a judge, be sleeping with a judge or know of a judge that is sleeping with someone they should not be. Do the math America, that is 1, 800 out of a population of around 9 million. Shame on the Democrats in Trenton that have taken away citizen's rights to protect themselves.

There are multiple parts to this: a) her handgun permits were delayed; b) she still would not have had a Carry permit, meaning that she couldn't legally have had the gun with her where she was attacked. c) the knee-jerk reaction by NJ was to allow fast-tracking of handgun permits that wouldn't address Carrying, and simply is a band-aid instead of a fix, that also just motivates yet more women to claim abuse during disagreements - making it even more likely that the man will lose his gun and the woman will get one when there's a dispute, which doesn't make much sense either. NJ should have even-handed laws that allow handgun purchasing in a timely but sufficiently checked manner, and Concealed Carry should not be on such a rare exception basis. Police cannot defend us everywhere, and making sure that only the criminals carry guns and law abiding citizens cannot, is not an effective crime control policy. Every rampage that takes too long to stop because only the nut is armed in a gun-free zone has shown us that time and time again too.

To drive a car, you need a license, the car has to be registered, you must obey the road rules. Why are these same principles not applied to gun ownership? Maybe commonsense is not so common!
The vast majority of deaths by gun are a result of people of emotional or psychological instability. Oh and the 2nd amendment is an amendment, 'amendment' means it can be changed.

It is hard to own a gun in New Jersey because it's the densities state per square mile so if you had mental problems you can kill many lives in minutes. Also you can not carry a concealed gun and walk around in New Jersey. The gun laws are by far one of worst states for a gun owner.
