5 Gallon bucket Knot. Tying a Better Handle.

Here’s a quick video on creating a handle for a 5 gallon bucket. The plastic handle I had got faded in the sun and crumbled when I tried to pick it up. So I just used some practice rope I had on and tripled up the cord so it would distribute the weight as I carried it. It works well and comes off as fast.

Petition: how to tie stuff to a bicycle rear rack. I carry some paracord on my bike instead of bungee cords and I use variations of your trucker's hitch but I wonder what would your take be. Big boxes are particularly challenging to me.

Thanks!

I haven't practiced in decades, but while in the Navy, I chose to be assigned with the Marines ('92-'95, I loved every minute) and our Company was doing high mountain rescue training and fell in love with knots. Not only for climbing, but for everyday use. I wish they let us keep the handbook.

Petition: Bottle carry handle-tethers for disposable bottles, reusable bottles with & without lip.

Such a simple and genius idea. Before I would run coils around handle enough times and end with a slip knot over the turns.

Love rope for all kinds of purposes, but when my bucket handles break, I substitute 1/2 inch PVC pipe. Cut the access slit at a bias and pry the bail into place inside the pipe. The PVC is larger than the original handle hence more comfortable. The bail won't jump out of the PVC because of the access slit angle. If you don't like the slit gap (which can be rough), use PVC cement and a heat gun to close the gap and join the two sides. All that said, the idea of a Prusik knot for a substitute handle is very clever.

You're like Arthur Dent with his towel with that spoon.

Pretty cool idea! I used to have to sample concrete in galvanized buckets years ago, this would have been great!

I'll definitely be giving this one a try... I'm thinking for really heavy buckets that might be more comfortable than using an intact plastic handle.

Interesting option. Another is to use the plastic tubes those produce bags in the grocery are rolled on. They are large enough to slide up the wire handle if you take one end loose from the bucket. I also turned some wooden handles on a lathe. I glued two pieces of wood together with paper in the joint, turned the handle, then soaked it in water to soften the paper and glue. After drying out, place the 2 pieces on the wire and glue them together. You need to make a groove in the center of each half before you turn them. You can use the ends of the grooves to center the handle on the lathe. And of course, the first time you glue with the paper, be sure to use a water soluble glue.

First video where the genius idea isn't the knot. For me it was how you slipped your hand through to let more of the hand/wrist take the load from the handle.

Better handle than the original. Even if the original is still present.

Suggestion: I have a short length of paracord I use to tie the groceries to the bed of my truck so they don't go flying all over the place. How about a knot to become the true One Trip King when you get home.

I used my marlin spike I got from your website to get an ungodly knot apart that my daughter put in a length of acrobatic silk. She had been doing tricks with her body weight for weeks so the knot was extremely tight on itself. I didn’t even know what a marlin spike was before I saw it on your channel 👍🏻

Thanks for the video bro..this is going to come in super handy! You have one of the best youtube channels and you make easy to understand videos...Unrelated to knots, but what kind of anchor point did you use to hook up your outdoor rollershades to your stucco column? I have the same type of setup, but I don't know what to use to drill into the stucco. Thanks!
