I always defend pixel art, but I must admit that the hand-drawn version is very effective. What do you think?

The pixel art looks and feels so much more fluid and alive. The hand drawn looks like still images.

The HD Remix art in the intro looked too clean and bulky whilst the original is a bit more grounded and detailed.

That Cammy's tongue out frames are done so perfectly

Pixel art and the original style always.

There’s something oddly satisfying about the original pixel art. It has so much more detail and the way Ryu’s Gi moves separately from the body better than the hand drawn adds so much depth to the overall animation

The original Ryu looks like a proper badass. The HD version looks like a little kid from some cartoon

The issue is that, since the new art is so high-quality, it's naturally expected that there should also be higher-quality animation. Without new frames for animation, it just makes the whole thing end up looking more stilted and choppy, even though it's technically the exact same animation.

The pixel art style versions of SF will always look better in my opinion. Although I appreciate the quality of the artwork, the hand drawn spites seem to lack the character and charm of the originals.

For those who dont know, both versions are 'hand drawn'. The original was just converted to 'pixels' as that's was the visual medium used for CPS I, II, and III boards.

I like both but the pixel art is way, way better imo. It’s also very impressive for the time to my limited knowledge, or at least it still looks amazing to this day

Here are the details for the intro and why the pixel art version is extremely better.

1. The level of detail. The pixel art intro is full of detail capturing more emotions. (Akuma was the only still frame that the hand drawn art was better only due to the face. Jiding the face was a perfect move because Akuma was supposed to be a mystery.)

2. Numbers of frame- the pixel art version had many more frames making movement more fluid and real as opposed to being cartoonie. Best example was Ryu special attack. Sadly the numbers of frames to the hand art is just lazy or lack of a budget.

After that it comes down to preference. But with the facts alone does preference really matter?

The bounce in the Ryu’s pixel art is way more effective. Also The colors gradient and proportion is on point. Pixel art all the way😊

I think they should've re-animated everything around the strengths of hand-drawn art. It really doesn't gel well with the limitations of animation intended for pixel art

I have some unfortunate news about pixel art: it's more hand-drawn than the "hand-drawn" digital art from HD Remix. This is more pixel art VS digital art.

Why does cammy look like a jojo side character 💀

They're both hand drawn, it's just that the HD conversion has so many pixels that you don't notice that it is converted to a computer.

IMO, the pixel intro wins because it has way better art style, it's really just the difference of having a better artist. Besides the ugly stylised look of the HD remix, there is also just the blank facial expressions, freeze the video when Ryu is charging his Hadoken, in the original you see the determination in his face played out over all 3 frames while each frame of the HD version has a completely different expression, 1st frame mild commitment, 2nd confused, looking lost, 3rd looks like he sat on his keys.

I know the HD remake was a budget release and that it was difficult drawing over the original art and while I appreciate that they didn't just do a lazy upscale I still prefer the og look of the game.

The pixel art original is full of color and richness and aliveness. It's beautiful. The hand drawn one... just has no life to it. Medium is less important than expression. It's like redrawing a classic painting for the hell of it. Maybe after 30 years we can look at this fresh and appreciate how good that simple pixel art from 1994 is.

Eh ... it might be nostalgia googles, but I like the original better. The new version looks a tiny bit Flash Animation to me ...
