Have you ever wished upon a shooting star? Looking up at the night sky, we often mistake these streaks of light for stars, but they’re not really stars at all.

Shooting stars – which are really just meteors – consist of bits of dust and rock falling into the Earth’s atmosphere and burning up. Meteors can move at incredible speeds and the faster and larger they are, the brighter and longer they glow.

Star Gazers host Trace Dominguez breaks down this beautiful phenomenon.
