How to cover water quickly and find fish! Using our Garmin to find and catch Striper on Texoma!

This trip was a pretty amazing trip. We were checking spots looking for fish and hadn’t been excited about spots one and two. We were heading across the river channel and running at full speed when I noticed some big red dots on the sonar. When you are traveling that fast, a big red dot means a lot of fish. We stopped the boat on top of a huge school of striper, started fishing about eight and caught our 30 fish limit right at 9:30.
I had seen a video on Mike Smedly’s YouTube channel about some rodholders that his friend Joey makes, so I had ordered a couple from him. I attached two rod holders to each of his and was able to add an additional 8 rod holders to my boat without drilling any holes. It took us a while to get them out between all of the bites but we were able to test those out and they worked awesome!
I am still finishing the rigging on the boat to get it the way I want it and it is getting much closer now.
From a fishing standpoint, the striper are still feeding heavily to put on weight for the winter. It has been super warm, and the bait is plentiful, so we are still live bait fishing now and waiting for the temperature to drop and start cold stunning the shad so that we can put our cast nets away and focus on deadsticking! and everything is catching fish right now! We started off fishing structure with our thumper and put several fish in the boat then I received a report from Ed that the birds were working across the lake. By the time we made it there… no birds. We started looking for fish on structure and found a big school. We spotlocked, dropped baits, hit the thumper and it was on! The fish stayed under the boat the whole time and we picked up an easy limit of box fish and a couple of nice overs and were done by 11… There were no finicky fish today, they hit hard and we probably landed 50% or more of the bites.
