So far, I've read 16 (non-classic) books in 2023! Let's rank them from favorite to least favorite!

Hi friends!

After having so much fun ranking the 10 classic books I've read so far this year, I was curious to see how the other (non-classic) books I've read in 2023 would rank!

I'd love to hear what books you've been loving this year, so feel free to share that in a comment :)

Sending you my best wishes,
Carolyn Marie :)

My top 5 this year so far:
War and Peace, Brothers Karamazov, 3 Musketeers, Band of Brothers, & the Divine Comedy. Those first 2 were definitely inspired by you and Emmie!

I wish John Green could write more nonfiction! He was HILARIOUS in The Anthropocene Reviewed!

I've always been in love with Neverwhere and I so hope Neil Gaiman will one day write the sequel he promised a long time ago!

Very much enjoyed this ranking Carolyn. Thanks!!. I Can't argue with anything by Murakami at number 1. Personally I would have Philip Pullman right up up there with Gaiman. My top five of 2023 so far is. 1. The Passenger - Cormac McCarthy. 2. Demon Copperhead - Barbara Kingsolver. 3. The Master Butcher's Singing Club - Louise Erdrich. 4. Revenge: Eleven Dark Tales - Yoko Ogawa. 5. Shrines of Gaieity - Kate Atkinson.

My top 5 books so far this year are:
1. The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin (so excited to read the rest of the series, but the worldbuilding in this book alone was enough to launch it into the first position)
2. Babel by R.F. Kuang (it has its flaws but I just found the book highly entertaining despite them, plus the dark academia vibes were just what I was craving at that point)
3. Circe by Madeline Miller (I think this book officially marked the restart of my Ancient Greek phase lol)
4. Kindred by Octavia E. Butler (a fascinating sci-fi that hooked me from beginning to end)
5. The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky (so glad you and Emma picked this for GoT! I ended up adoring it!)

As for your top 5, I think I’ve finally been convinced to give Norwegian Wood a shot. I’ve been wary of Murakami (I’ve heard bad things about his character writing), but this one appears to be his best.
