I remember installing Chromium OS on my raspberry 4. It wasn't the exact same experience but it was easy-to-use

For a more desktop-like experience on a low-end PC, a Linux distribution might be a better choice.
Something like Linux Mint XFCE would run on any x86_64 computer, and has the added bonus of the full Linux software library, with unmatched stability and security. Mint also has a very shallow learning curve, mainly because it looks very similar to Windows, but also because application management, driver installation and updates are done with a graphical user interface.

If your low end laptop is an Intel, you could have used brunch instead of chromeos flex, and you would have had the option of using the Linux apps. From what I’ve heard, it works pretty well!

I've had no issues and much better performance on ChromeOS Flex. I got MultiMC via the terminal and used the 1.18+ (now 1.19) optimized launcher from technic. Works super great but do wish Android apps were on here, Linux apps are a lot more important though so not a huge issue. Also, I have Steam running too with a ton of Steam apps and games that work well. I am using an i7 though so might be thanks to the higher specs.

might as well use brunchos xD The funniest part is the only notebook I'd use this or brunch are actually the real chromebooks because they do not get the official updates but the unofficial brunch port works flawless even on the very first generation chromebook that did not get any updates for past few years, google is artificially making e-waste out of perfectly working devices.

Maybe try a Linux distro soon on that low-end laptop, I personally like PopOS and Arch.

I use a chrome book for school and even at home I use my personal account and it’s just really light weight and useful for small things.

love the video, but chromeos flex has a couple small problems in my mind:
1 - very stripped down, non-technical, which is good for some people but terrible for others
2 - why do you have to delete everything else on the drive to install?
3 - linux isn't supported without a virtual machine, which is ridiculous since the base for this os is linux and it uses linux features to do things
4 - good luck running games lol, correct me if i'm wrong

Big thing to note about the "Linux compatibility", it's just a customized Debian 9 virtual machine, and since it's a virtual machine and not a native integration, the performance is likely to be terrible.

It's better to use something like Xubuntu, Lubuntu or Linux Mint (XFCE), you'll have a better user experience and better performance

arch linux is pretty ez to install they have a simple script called archinstall
you just flash the arch iso to ur usb boot connect to network then type archinstall

You need to enable cpu virtualization in bios to properly enable the linux support.

Remember that with ChromeOS Flex, you do get the full experience minus a few features here and there such as no Google Play Store either.
