How to start your car when the key fob battery dies

Here is a quick video to show you how to start you car with a weak or dead key fob. This specific example is on a Honda Odyssey but this process will work for lots of other vehicles. Here are the steps:
1) Use the emergency / mechanical key that is stored in the key fob.
2) Use that key to open the door using the slot under the handle. The key can go in either direction.
3) Once inside, place your foot on the brake.
4) Place the non-button side of your fob up against the start/stop button.
5) Listen for the beep.
6) With your foot on the brake, press the start/stop button.

OH I KNOW ONE TO ADD, okay so for a lot of the newer cars (new-ish, my 2017 kia niro has it so i guess not that new) that have push to start they’re moving to a new system, so before you start scouring your car for the place to insert your keyfob, try placing the BACK of the keyfob on the push to start button, press down your brake as usual and push the start button with the keyfob itself, a lot of cars will start with thst and just straight up don’t have a port for the keyfob.

If you end up not being able to start the car that way then its time to look for a port, they go all over the place but here’s a list of places I’ve seen them so you know where to check first:
1: inside the center console (that box between driver and passenger seat) typically on the front wall of that box
2: on a panel visible only by opening the glovebox, just a wall on the left of the storage area.
3: on either driver side or passenger side below the cup holders about half way to the floor of your foot area
4: directly underneath the “infotainment” system (that place you change the radio and heat settings) kinda on the left side.
5: Inside the cup holder itself probably on the one most forward in the car.
6: obviously somewhere right next to the push to start button.

Final tip, well two in one kinda, 1: your keyfobs physical key usually is made so that the tip of it will perfectly fit inside a small plastic slot in the keyfob besides the keyhole, and if you jab the key into that shallow slot and twist it will open up the keyfob so that you can access the battery to replace it. 2: check inside your keyfob now while you’re still thinking about it and figure out exactly what battery it takes and then go buy a replacement battery and just keep it inside the packaging in your glovebox so that you don’t have to keep dealing with the dead fob and you have the battery exactly where you need it.

Thanks for the info! Even I changed the fob battery, I still have the sign of “key battery change”. If I put a fob over the push button, it will reprogram the key??
