In GTA, the submarine explosion is actually just an aspect of the game.
The game is designed to kill you if you go too deep. Submarines also get destroyed too deep, but they can go deeper than a scuba diver.
This mechanic is referred to as "crush depth, " as seen in the warning when you near the killbox.
The crush depth mechanic actually mirrors real life, in that the pressure and strain on materials underwater increases the deeper you go, eventually destroying whatever is subjected to it, be it your internal organs or the structure of a submarine.
So, the only part of this that's modded is the submarine itself, which obviously resembles the submarine in the unfortunate incident, and does not exist in vanilla GTA V.
