Instructions unclear: I got something else stuck in my stabilizers

Ngl, it's kinda comforting to know that I'm not the only one struggling with stab rattle

Автор

be warned: holle modding zeal stabs can result in a very mushy break in period due to the reduced space in the stem compared to durock v2s. To accelerate the break in process, I recommend extra time to be spent flattening the bandaid to the stem, and also pre-soaking it with whatever lubricant you are using on the wires (of course, with the bandaid already installed... or else the adhesive won't work)

Medical tape works as well and can be less wasteful than bandaids !

Tip: go through the stem with you tweezers and apply it on the top of the tweezers, it will be much easier for you to get the band aid inside of the stem by pulling it! Pushing is a bit inconvenient

Pro tip: Cut the band-aid before removing the plastic covering the glue :-)

Note: The holee mod only helps with the rattle from the stem and wire. If your wires aren't balanced, your stabilizers will rattle.

Thank you very much for doing this video on the holee mod. I thought my boards sounded decent before. But after trying it out on all the stabs for 2 of my hotswap boards (NK65 EE and a 60% alu case), my boards sound SO MUCH better! I never knew my boards could make such sounds before, its like unlocking the potential that I never knew existed out of these boards.

The holee mod removes that annoying metallic ticking sound that is produced when the metal stab wire hits the stabiliser stem when we push down on the key.

I had thought my quality everglide screw in stabs didn't produce any ticking sound. But upon closer sound comparison with my holee modded stabs. I DID notice a subtle ticking with the screw in stabs that I never really paid attention to before. After holee modding all my everglide screw in stabs, it resulted in the stab keys having a much more muted, more homogeneous sound profile as compared to the other normal keys. When I do a typing test, the entire keyboard sounds smoother, as I can't tell the difference in sound when I press on a spacebar, a shift key or a normal key. The typing sounds and experience has become so much more satisfying, that I'm buying desoldering tools to desolder all my other boards to holee mod all the stabs moving forward.

For anyone who's trying this mod and felt like giving up because it's taking so long. Push through the pain!!!

I'm new to lubing and this mod took my over an hour and a half to complete but it was so worth it!

i tried this on my first keyboard i ever build and never was quiet happy with, but now it is actually good to press the spacebar instead of trying to hit that one sport where it sounded alright. and it was much faster than I expected. great mod

Hamaji, thank you so much for doing this tutorial. I tried doing this several months ago going off of just written instructions and failed miserably - so I gave up because I got frustrated. But, I decided to revisit the mod and found your video... now I cannot stop pressing my beautiful spacebar! I had a tick on the right side of my space bar, even after lubing and straightening out my stab wires. You've earned a sub from me, hands down!

Using the right bandaid and a good pair of small scissors makes this a lot easier. Also I found it easier to cut the bandaid by peeling the cover off, turning it 90 degrees and putting it back on. That way you can cut the bandaid without the scissors sticking but you can still peel off the cover since it will stick out past the ends of the bandaid.

I just did the holee mod on my ticking space bar. Holy cow what a difference! Possible the most annoying mod I have ever done for my keyboard but so worth it. Thank you Hamaji!

This saved my sanity. I have been in an endless cycle of relubing my stabs, having them sound good for about two weeks, and then suddenly becoming rattlecity

Wow! thank you for the excellent tutorial! I just did the Holee Mod on my NK65 and you have helped me endgame my keyboard even further. Thank you! I didn't think i'd be able to get rid of that damn rattle.

Holee Modded my stabs for the first time using your video and it was hands down the easiest to follow out of other stab how-to’s I’ve watched. The clear, simple instructions and up close footage was super useful. Thanks for the video!

Just used this to fix a rattly backspace, when modding stabilizers is one of my least favorite things to do. This made it as painless as possible - even three years on this video is priceless! Thanks for making it.
