What is Integrity?

Aine Donovan, Adjunct Associate Professor at Tuck and Executive Director of the Ethics Institute at Dartmouth, discusses the meaning of integrity, and equates it with a moral code that includes honesty and sincerity, two cornerstones of human interaction. Far from being quaint relics of a bygone era, integrity and ethics have become the responsibilities of today's business leaders more than ever before.

Integrity is about defining your core values (being honest and sincere with them) and living your life defining them in every action and choice you make. For example mine are teamwork/harmony, honesty, and empathy for all living beings. All the choices I make go back to at least one of these core values, if they do not align with my values I will not go through with an action or choice until I re-examine what is wrong and do my best trying to fulfill my values. I've been doing this since I was 18 and even now almost 10 years later I still struggle profoundly.

Integrity in the family is essential to the success of the community and the families anatomy. Lack of it is dysfunctional in nature and destructive to the unity of the family. So she is correct when she says the company we keeps is important because we emulate the behavior of people around us. Bad associations ruin good habits.
