Pro surfer here.
There Should have been water safety on jet skis with a rescue platform on the back. They really messed up on this one, safety is paramount. You cant take short cuts when it comes to water safety.

I just happened to be watching live, it’s much worse than being reported. So many people were right there watching 30 feet from it happening. Someone dove in and the lifeguard made them get out and after checking the area he said no one was there. Dude was under for 20-30 minutes before they went to get him….

Nothing new at the CrossFit games - they absolutely don't care about the procedures, the safety, they even ignore their own rules regarding correct reps and so on.

The family MUST sue And take absolutely everything from them. You could see on TV the guy's struggles.
No helpers were on boat/jet ski/paddle board in the water "to ensure safety, just in case."

Public swimming pools even have more safeguards than that!

Absolutely tragic and heartwrenching. Was watching the livestream while cycling and saw what happened, then the stream cut off. NO excuses, there MUST be accountability. Praying for the family and all those affected.

Drowning is the worst, I remember one time I got a little far from the shore and started to fatigue the terror is unimaginable the racing heart water getting in your mouth when you are tired man that is just the worst.

I was a lifeguard at a triathlon. I had a surfboard and people would hang on to my surfboard to rest. It was gnarly. It wasn't enough. It was a amateur triathlon. There should be boats with lifeguards.

In Budapest there was a lady who almost drowned during one of those pool dancing competition. Her coach jumped in and saved her. According to the story it took over 2 minutes for the coach to get her out of the pool and the coach was yelling at the lifeguards to no avail. Finally another competitor jumped in to help. I say all this to say, that I believe that the lifeguards at competitions are just there decorations.

Since I was very young my parents and grandparents have been telling me not to go into the water warmed up. Running before swimming is a recipe for a heart attack.
