How to pack for a motorcycle trip across Africa

In 2016/2017 I rode the length of Africa starting in Spain and then riding all of the countries in Southern Africa before returning home. This video is one I recorded but never produced until now. Great video as usual. It is a hard thing deciding what you absolutely need and what you don’t. You definitely learn after riding a lot what you really need, and what you think you do. I’ve been able to weed out a lot from what I use to think I had to have. Just adds weight and takes up room if it’s not needed.

Yes, less is definitely more.
But can't travel without a small emergency beer can in my toolkit. For a really good, or bad day, and the metal can makes really good exhaust sealing bandage. 2 uses for everything. .

As long as you are not showing me how slick you are loading a bike on the back of a truck, and putting the fear of God in me when I try to replicate it (you may remember my previous message / analogy with me and my Son following your example - when I end up with damaged shins, broken ribs, an exhaust burn on my leg, and a handlebar in my eye) 😊😊😊. Is that a xt600e. If so it's lighter. air-cooled. and same power as a xt660r and looks cool too. nice bike when it first came out ticked a lot of boxes. I have always wanted a big single I have ridden a klx650 Kawasaki. But never bought one.

While I don't agree with every item and list differs for ride and conditions this is what people need more: how to pack wisely. Too many end buying a light bike and then bringing everything and kitchen sink. As an old randonner I met many years ago put it: "green bucks get excited talking about routes and rides.. seasoned ones about logistics".

no toilet paper kit? soap + TP + hand sanitizer +toothbrush and paste maybe a couple of grocery bags to act as garbage bags.
