Thank you for your interest in this achievement.
Unfortunately, it is for you in French, but there you will find maps and photos that should be sufficient for understanding.
I am very satisfied with this modification which is very far from the initial 3018 pro. The Z axis is very rigid (no more play). I cut 3mm dural and 15mm plywood with no problem (see end of forum post)
Soon I will continue this post to rebuild, from the remaining parts of the 3018, a CNC close to the original, but with more work surface capacity and hopefully more rigidity of the z axis.

I just got a 3018 as a way to learn cnc.
I'm passed what my 3018 can do already. I was looking to try and beef up the x and z axis.

I don't suppose you could post a video of your current machine? I don't need a build video but to see what you have done could help.

i have plans for my z axis that don't involve using the short spindle holder, not too much of a change, space for 4 bearings.

Hi where did you get your l8near rails from

At what point does it stop being a 3018? The main weaknesses of the original are poor support of all the axes - the rails are as stiff as wet spaghetti. I've addressed that issue on mine too - just not the same way you have. At the same time I made it all bigger. It is now based on a 600mm square paving slab, which gives proper support to everything, and even when the Z carrier is right in the centre, I can only make it move about 0.01mm by pushing hard on it. There is really nothing left of the original machine by now except a couple of bits of 2020 extrusion.

Sorry me again. Did you use only one block for rail?

really cool,

do you mind sharing how you mounted the linear rails, how you find them after testing them with actual cuts, and if it's worth the upgrade?

Also, does this solve the wobble problem on the 3018 pro CNC. I found that when leading into a cut it almost jerks up and then down, I was wondering if this no longer occurs. Thanks in advance.
