I've been waiting for new Settlers and Age of Empires for a long time. I'm also interested in Crusader Kings, but i'm worried about Paradox's DLC policy...

War Selection looks really interesting, mostly because the first thing I think about is "Empire Earth". I am always searching for a game that starts in the stone age and works upwards to modern or medieval times at the very least. RTS is a misnomer. That genre should be called RTCF or "Real Time Click Fast." "Strategy" takes a back seat to how fast you can click.

Just a quick correction: Still going to try to do networked multiplayer (the stretch goals are more "at this point I'm comfortable promising the feature, but I still want to do the feature regardless") and it's just combat that's on a hex grid. Thanks for the coverage :)
