Well, obviously you'd need a galactic empire first. That's really the only reason they could manage it.

If only the US used that amount of money towards NASA.

"Why would we make such a massive ship that can be blown up by a one man ship?"
Me: Don't put in the flaw then!

Also which country has X-Wings?

You would have a use for a Death star if you had a galactic empire, then again you would need a galactic empire to build the weapon

Actually flaw exploited by Rebels was put there by purpose by their agent, who was chief engineer working on it. ;)

They dont need to build such a big star tho, why not build a couple of smaller ones which we can use against big meteorites coming to close to earth

Exactly how much would it cost in fuel to travel from one star system to another ( at light speed no doubt )? It would be propelled by some kind of fusion reactor I would imagine. All those nuclear fuel rods would be very expensive indeed!

You need to take into account the advancement of cloning and robots that provide a lot of energy and free labour.

“The Administration does not support blowing up planets” “Why would we spend countless taxpayer dollars on a death star with a fundamental flaw that can be exploited by a one-man starship?”

I have an honest question, what about a realistic equivalent? A solar powered giant lazer with a minimalist crew. A Lazer that won't destroy a planet but one that would just be a very good weapon and could be focused on particular targets? Say a lazer with enough force to vaporize many life forms of a military base or part of a city? Such a weapon would still be better than any weapon of all time and more effective and less long term effects than nukes. How much would it cost?
