Space Force or Space Command: Is it Crazy or Actually Genius?

Donald Trump has notified the world that be plans on creating a fifth branch in the military for space, called the Space Force. Logistically - it’s not a terrible idea, but it could be a huge cash bleed for the United States. Is it worth it?

I'm still on the fence about the US creating a space force. I think my biggest concern is the financial burden it'll put on the population. Do you think the threat in space is worth concerning ourselves over?

I don't think we need a space force right now. But in 10 years we likely will need one. So getting it started soon is a good idea.

It makes sense to have a dedicated branch of the armed services to space. For lack of a better term, star wars are inevitable. As far as the budget, well that's easy. Take what the Air Force and the other branches spend on space projects and what goes to NASA (which is a private corporation). That would make for a pretty healthy budget for the Space Force to "play" with.

First, I think you have the makings of a great channel. Good luck. Second, the Space Force MIGHT be a good idea, depending. one of the problems today is that the separate services all have their thumb in the space pie, which creates duplication of effort as well as competition. The USAF wants to claim space, but tell that to the USN. Anyone who has been "in" knows what I am talking about. So let's get some clarification before we go all in.

Maybe the guys that made this video might not know that we already have 5 branches of the military- They are: Navy, Army, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard--the Space Force would be no. 6 guys.

Well done on creating an unbiased video! In my opinion, the US should not create a space force. In my opinion, this would be a move towards militarising space, which would encourage other countries to do the same. The United States already spends excessively on its defence while having many issues of its own that could be resolved with a fraction of its military funding. Spending more money on military is something I am always against. Instead, they should put it to better use for things like increasing NASA budget, funding science programs, healthcare, or education. Space should not be a battleground, it should be for exploration, possible colonising, science, etc.

This is all ignoring the probable reason for why Trump would want to create a Space Force, but I shall leave out my opinion on Trump, since the idea itself is not about him.

I dont feel comfortable of mulitirizing space, space has always been our final frontier, a place we explore, not a platform to flight each other, I just dont like the Idea that destructive weapons can be lunched over my head.

Imo a space force is unnecessary just like most of the US military spending. The US is already so far ahead of the whole world, that better budgeting would help them fund the space command better and would probably even leave a significant budget for NASA or other public organisations to use.

They have talked about this since the 80's. I find it curious that drumpf came up with it only after the private space sector showed it could launch payloads successfully for 1/10 the price of the legacy aerospace launchers. The other curiosity is that the currently funded space forces will need an additional $8 billion. AFTER a big consolidation, there are supposed to be SAVINGS, not massive price increases. That's WHY we do consolidations, not to spend MORE. Plus do we Really want to take any advice from a serial bankrupter who says trade wars are easy to win? hint: Ask an American farmer if it's easy to fight another GOP caused war.
