JONAS SALK & THE POLIO VACCINE a brief history
Hey, my little party animals and welcome to a brand new video! Pre-1955, Polio was one of the most terrifying public health issue plaguing the world. During the US Polio epidemic of 1952, over 3,000 people died and over 21,000 were left with mild to disabling paralysis— with most victims of the disease being children. This all changed in 1955 when the Jonas Salk created one of the first effective polio vaccines. Salk subsequently refused to patent the vaccine, asking reporters, “Could you patent the sun?” Salk’s vaccine led to countless lives saved from Polio. This is his story.
This sim is inspired by Jonas Salk. Though, I admittedly am not the best at recreating actual people-- I thought Salk's story was important enough to try! I hope you enjoy this brief biography of Jonas Salk, and please leave comments below with other important figures throughout history you would like to learn more about.
