We are still here in Newark, NJ exploring the different wards and neighborhoods of the city. Today we are in the North Ward. The north ward like all other wards of Newark has a decorated history. Pre riots this was a majority Italian neighborhood and now current day it's a majority Puerto Rican neighborhood. It is said that this ward along with the East Ward went more or less unscathed from the 1967 riots as that event mainly shocked the South, West and especially the Central Ward.... where the riot started. We visit Stephen Crane Village, pass by

Branch Brook Park, ride on Bloomfield Ave and finish on Parker Street by Barringer High School. Newarkers or those familiar with the area.... Let me know where or what places in Newark to visit next time. This will be part 1 of our North Newark Drive Through. There will be at least another installment so stay tuned! Thank you for watching!

I'm 74 and grew up in Newark. Down neck. This was a tough neighborhood for over 200 years !! Still is but I can walk anywhere at night and nobody will bother you !😂😅 We're all on the lookout for troublemakers and they know it!😂

Wow been gone for so long. More familiar with the ATL & Chicago over the past 30 years. But this is bringing back memories of names like Stella Wright, Christopher Columbus, Munn Ave, Georgia King village & Seth Boyden. Lots of memories for a 70’s Jersey kid. I can still hear WBLS blasting from the family van as we headed to Cooper’s or Brothers BBQ to get some grub✊🏾

Damn Newark used to look fucked up with so many abandoned buildings and hundreds of drug addicts roaming the streets. Looks much nicer now.

Grew up in Stephen Crane in the 80s. Big difference of what it is today. A lot of the neighbors were italians and irish then.

I bought my father's headstone at DePoala monuments 3:57. Right where the Dunkin Donuts is was Kielbs bakery back in the 60's and 70's great Danish and the BEST cheesecake.

This was an Italian area. Punks were beat up, not glorified as tough. Tough guys have responsibilities and get up and go to work. Newark was a great city.

This neighborhood has changed with some new buildings, and some gone. Notice the buildings and assisted housing have no graffiti, things are cluttered as they were in the 60's and 70"s but people live in dignity. There was no stigma attached to living in the Village. It was intended to be a place for people to lift themselves. It worked now a new crop of ethnic folks have the same opportunity.

I lived in the north ward from 2004 to 2007. Honestly my only complaint is it's over crowded not like the south ward. Also from my experience those Latino people dont bother you. They are loud lol with the music though.
