Hello everyone! Today, we are going to show you my favorite Scrap buster quilt block!

#potato #potatochip #Potatochipblock #Scrappypotaoechipblock

My quilting friends and I have nicknamed this block "The Potato Chip Block" because they are so much fun to make.

The cutting instructions for the 12.5 inch block I showed you are as follows:

Cut 32 - 2.0 by 3.5 inch rectangles and arrange as shown in the video.

The 12.5 inch block uses 18 rectangles and they measure 2.5 by 4.5 inches. The layout would be the same except for the most outer row is not there.

You can use 2.0 x 3.5 inch, 2.5 x 4.5 inch, 3.5 x 6.5 inch 4.5 x 8.5 inch, 6.5 x 12.5 inch and 8.5 x 16.5 inch rectangles and just sew them all the same way as instructed in the video.

Let us know in the comments below if you would like us to show you that alternative Potato Chip block.

Remember it is easier to make more than one of these blocks at once because you can chain piece.

Remember to have fun with trying different scale of prints, color combinations, different layouts and keep moving forward.

Most importantly, quilting and piecing is about having fun not feeling pressured!

There is so many things to look at on a scrappy quilt that other people won't notice any mistakes you make. This is a very cute "I spy" quilt too!

I hope this helps you conquer your Mount Scrapmore!

Hi, several years ago, my sister (God rest her soul) & I participated in a quilt shop hop. At one of the shops, forgotten the name, they were demonstrating a unique block they had designed to take care of their scrap problem; they called it "the potato chip block". Paper copies of their pattern were handed out. Both of our copies have been lost to time. Long story short, your block reminded me of that experience! TY for recalling a good memory from time past! AND I LIKE YOUR BLOCK!

Thank You, years ago my friend and I made very small blocks like this. I called mine; “Where in the World is Bob Hope”. There was a drawing of him on a piece of fabric. It was FUN to make.😊

Great Block and great website. Thanks so much for all you do. You are a very good teacher.
(I would like to say one quiet word. It would be so nice if people could find another way to say 'charity quilts'. Perhaps community service quilts or something like that. The word charity is so demeaning to people who are in need. Thanks for listening and i do appreciate you lovely website.Nice Job!👍👍 )

Thanks for this fun and easy scrap buster block! I put one together this morning using 2 x 3.5 mini-bricks, sent the photo to my sister and guess what? About 4 hours later she sent me a photo of the square she created. Quilters share the love! Eager to see the 12.5" block made with slightly larger rectangles cut from jelly rolls.

Jan. 7, 2024. Hello Brenda,
I sure enjoyed zoom sewing yesterday, Jan. 6th. Today I visited my sister. She and her husband bought a new TV that is programmed thru the internet. They can watch YouTube videos on it. I showed her your channel and we watched this scrap buster potato chip block together. Wow! The colors really popped! She enjoyed your tutorial. I made several more blocks tonight after cutting up more scraps. Thank you! Marion in Oregon

Wow! What a great way to use up my strips into squares! You make me want to stay home from work just to sew all day. Thank you for sharing. I could just spend the whole day with you to learn more off of you.

This is the video that introduced me to you several months ago. I ran across it accidentally and in this case accidents are good!!! Since then I've watched sew many of your blocks being created. I'm always making something for can't throw anything of any size is the perfect block.

This would be a great way to use the jelly rolls! I have such a tough time deciding what to do with the jelly rolls I have bought! I wish you the best as you grow your channel!

I have never seen this pattern before. It reminds me a little of the "Log Cabin" block. Your pattern looks like fun and should help me use up a lot or the larger pieces of scraps. If and when we (Homemakers) are allowed to get back together to work on projects again, already made Potato Chip Blocks could be turned into small quilts quickly to be given to the Police, Fire and Rescue Departments to help them provide comfort to small children in distress. Thank you for this video, pattern, and idea.
