Capitol Peak and the Knife's Edge in SLEET!

I reached the summit of Captiol Peak on August 7th, 2017. Originally intended to be a solo summit, but I met two cool dudes along the way. I'm from NYC so I'm not used to altitude. Having done many 14ers before, I didn't think much of the altitude sickness since it hasn't bothered me in the past. I flew into denver and was at the summit in less then 30 hours, however the altitude sickness was extremely tough to overcome.

This is an excellent video, despite some camera shake. It reveals how adverse climbing can be and how weather conditions rule in all alpine sports. However, inadequate footwear, lack of layers and other gear increased the risk.

I cannot describe to you how happy I am you made it down. You were in so much danger! There is no way you could understand how bad that situation was. Beginning a climb like that with cloudy conditions is a horrible idea. I am glad you are alive! There are so many people that can't say that after attempting that peak in those conditions.

That was too epic for me and I had to turn it off to watch videos of ants sleeping

Kiuxi, did you follow a published route (if so, which? where can one read about it?), or did you mostly follow an apparent trail (where visible) where other climbers have trod, or what? I ask because so many of the recent deaths apparently resulted from getting off the so-called "standard route", and looking for short-cuts. I want to attempt Capitol Peak one day but I want as much advance info as possible about how to remain on the safest route. Any advice?

Hey man.. don't listen to some of these assholes. Yes it wasn't the smartest with the weather... but as humans we would be nowhere if we didn't push our selves to the limits, it's in our blood. You accomplished a goal and learned about mountain weather. Dope

Last year was not a good season on capitol peak. I’m hoping to attempt it this year before they actually do start requiring permits inevitably. What was your thoughts on k2? Was getting over k2 the hardest part in your opinion? Glad you are unharmed and that you learned some stuff without suffering serious consequences.

Irresponsible behavior on that exposure. Giving climbers a bad name
