I like that these Create/VS vehicles look crazy and not like ordinary real world vehicles. A windmill powered tank is awesomely minecraft-y.

A "good" idea you could do to your tank to make it move is to have a separate driver to the cannon, this is now allows the tank to be controlled but the only downside is that the driver and gunner have to have good co-ordination, meaning the tank would be "fully" functional (like an actual tank).

You need to power the firing side of the mount to use the autocannon with handles, and input the ammo through a hopper.

small tip: you need to power the front of the cannon too to make it fire

in the inside of the tank you can add some balloon blocks to make it lighter and make it more compact

Also you could use immersive portals to both fit inside and make the cannon work, if you put a portal on top and have a cannon shoot through one end it SHOULD work

Funny enough this is how I would have done it too. Mechanically a block of copper is just as strong as a block of iron.

But while copper looks way better iron can be used for more than just building material.

Another alternative I like is Smooth Stone.

An idea: a 3x3 piston door on wheels (so your base can have multiple doors when you dont uave the resources)

In a previous video you figured out the actual vehicle is technically considered to be in another direction. So my guess is when firing the cannon, it fires in that other dimension.

I think you can use the belts to move like tank wheels, which means cars and ACTUAL TANKS WORK
