Nobody has any more money left to spend on another drone that we don't need. Dji has taken it all lol

You are looking at the Phantoms fro the "consumer", "hobbiest", "film maker" point of view. Many of us are using it for industrial inspections, surveys, land management, Security patrols and Law Enforcement or Fire Department crime scene documentation or Search and Rescue. But the Phantom lacks many of the features we want out of the box. Example, Zoom camera. When I am inspecting a roof or building with a Facilities Maintenance supervisor and we see something out of the ordinary, we can't zoom in to get a better look. We have to lower the aircraft which is often dangerous. For conducting Security patrols along property lines we want to be able to Zoom into tree lines where homeless people often set up camps. This is where a Thermal camera would be useful. Same with the building inspections. Being able to do a thermal inspection of a building roof and the AC units are something we want but currently requires using a Inspire or Matrice sized UAV. We need built in strobes powered by the on board battery and controlled by the app for legal night flights. Currently we are forced to by third party strobes and velcro tape them to our UAV. We need ADS-B In built into the app to help keep track of local manned aircraft. And when we are flying Search and Rescue or trying to locate a dementia patient who wandered away from a hospital or nursing home we need HDMI or wifi out to a large screen monitor in our mobile ground station.
You want a small fold-able, portable UAV for "seizing life". We want a stable, long duration UAV for saving and protecting life. Whether I'm flying and a nursing home supervisor is standing by the monitor telling me "could you fly over to that field behind that hotel? She may have wandered over there." or a Maintenance supervisor is pointing at the 21 inch monitor saying "There's the problem. The drain on that side of the roof is clogged up. I'll get a man up there to clear it".

I have a spark and I want to go to a phantom series, I will just take advantage of the price drop on the p4p v2.0 once the new one comes out

Software Improvements is where it's at!

A company that is successful at it's peak makes one good one with interchangeable accessories. Cameras, colors, lights, motor upgrades, purchase software, portable and loaded with intelligent features.

I will kind of echo by lab earlier in the comments..it's really all about what market sector needs what..smaller commercial guys like me that can't afford to coin out on an inspire platform 6k and up depending on what sensors you want, so the mid size Phantom with water resistance, retractable gear, interchangeable lenses, an IR add on capability..somewhere in the 2800-3000 range, I would be thumping the DJI rep over the head with the cash saying " Take my money! Take my money! Take my money! "..but on the flip side I fear they would never give the almighty Phantom series ALL of those capabilities because it would end up absolutely destroying half of Inspire sales 🤐

You make some good points. I own a Phantom 4. I purchased it over the Mavic at the time simply because I liked it more and size wasn't an issue. I'd like to see a new phantom 5 but I'm not in the market for a new drone so makes no difference to me. Besides I'd rather buy a lightbridge 2, N3 and a make something.

I'm in for a P5 pro!! my hopes - retracting legs, massive 360* camera, extra flight time, all the cool intelligent flight modes the MP2 has, landing lights, cool new prop design, new shell colours... I reckon that would blow us away 😁

I bought my first own drone a month ago. I payed 500 euros for a Mavic Pro Platinum Fly More Combo. The batteries had only 3 loading cycles, and the DJI-production seal is from May 2018. As now all people go for the Mavic 2, the prices for really good "used" ones dropped hard the last months. I just waited for it, and own a Mavic 1 for a reasonable price now... I've tried the Mavic 2 as well - but for me, the some more sensors, 2 minutes more flight time and Zoom capability or bigger sensor isn't worth 1000 bucks more...

I would agree. Bigger and better is for those in the professional or commercial market who would go for the Inspire. For the amateur market you have the Spark for those who don't want or need (or as the comment below suggests can't differentiate) more capability. The Mavic Air is a great solution for most. The the Mavic 2 Pro covers more advanced users who want to have better photographic performance in low light conditions, better flying performance, longer battery life, and a quieter drone.

I love my mavic 2 pro it does everything and more. More things than I know what to do. Mavic 2 pro will be king for a few years at least I believe

Agree with everything in the video! But just for curiosity: what leaks of the P5 are out there? I saw a couple of pictures of an obsidian phantom with interchangeable lenses but I saw in droneDJ that DJI said “It’s a one-off for a customer. It’s not a P5 prototype.”.

I completely agree with you as a hobby drone pilot, but as a pro user I am really waiting for P5 with longer flight time, interchangeable lenses and an accessories socket. The Mavic controller is too small for fine control. I should renew my drone at least every 2 years. Why should I buy an old model?

Have you checked out the new Husband Zino? Rc sailors have been doing a review on it. I have to say it’s looking impressive for the price range.

The 5 will be useful if it foldable regardless of its size, waterproof for obvious reasons, maybe 360 compatibility, most of all the mainly improvements to its extended battery flight, yes I agree it would be silly to continually use it present design.

I really do agree with you, the new Mavic drones are so good, so small and such a good value that 95+% of the market doesn’t need anything better. Once again, thanks for all your valuable unbiased info.

i have the mavic pro 1 still, and why i dont buy a mavic 2 pro is the point that you touched that ya the mavic 2 pro has better features but are there really a major difference to what to see on the screen, the principle is the same, so ill wait for the mavic pro 3 which will hopefully has a TRUE 1" censor with zoom, all in one

Yes and no, depends on the target market. For personal use Mavic line is more than enough, for smaller pro entities Phantom line is still a solid bridge between Mavic and Inspire lines. IMHO, that is why we did not get 60 fps on M2P. Solid camera, 60fps, eventually interchangeable lenses, maybe better weather resistance for $2K vs $6K+ inspire? Why not?

I fully agree with your comments, DJI I believe have now hit the peak of the drone market, with the launch of both the Zoom & Pro unless your a pro film maker I just can’t see how things could be improved, except maybe battery life, more automated flight modes, swappable camera, that in itself wouldn’t make me purchase !
DJI have set a very high bar not only for themselves but also the competition and I look forward to see what the future holds.
Thanks Regards.

I think is coming in Feb-May 2019 maybe a Hasselblad camera with zoom and i think prores will be soon in the Phantom series maybe in the 5 Pro. The real improvement in the Phantom series will be the camera. Biggers sensor will come to. My opinion ;). Best regards from Mexico.
