Fallout 76 Just Added THE CREEPIEST Character in a NEW RANDOM EVENT!

On your travels you may now encounter Indrid Cold… or as he is also known… The Smiling Man.

Shoe in for the creepiest character in the entire game speaking to this entity makes everything worse

Indrid Cold was supposedly one of the earliest attestations of the "Men in Black" phenomena, which arrived almost immediately after the Mothman first appeared to people in Point Pleasant in the '60's.
Though unlike later versions of the mystery (which made them out to be agents of some nebulously described governmental organization), Indrid, and by extension other Men in Black were described as having... uncanny... features, kind of like the Alternates from the 'Mandela Catalogue' analog horror videos.
Weird, distorted features; bizarre voices that spoke with an odd intonation on the wrong syllable (much like everyone's favorite Spook, the G-Man from 'Half-Life') or with inexplicable verbal tics, breaking into laughter or swearing at inappropriate moments when it wasn't called for, when there wasn't a discernable reason; and a vast knowledge of things most humans at the time never knew of like nuclear physics, quantum mechanics, space travel, protons, tachyons, etc... while simultaneously being confused or 'given pause' by common idioms or ordinary devices and utensils like pencils, forks, and so on, as though they'd never seen or heard of such things before.
They behaved and looked ultimately like something that tried (and failed) to appear human, something that got the general, broad details correct but messed up on the specific minutiae of what constitutes "normal" human social cues and aesthetics.

Leading to these Men in Black sitting squarely in the Uncanny Valley.

Really been enjoying the cryptid themes in 76 after reading 'The Mothman Prophecies' by John Keel. This really makes my day that Indrid Cold has been added into the game.

In the book, Indrid Cold had a huge smile on his face, as he spoke, his lips did not move; I believe he was telepathically communicating with the man who encountered him in the book. Pretty creepy to have these guys walk up to your car (on some lonely road at night), you open the car window without really having a choice, and hear this man's (or whatever he was) voice in your head.

I actually met him in the first few hours of the update. was like who the hell are you... was a nice guy.. so Naturally i shot him once i finished talking to him, then he vanished just as the mothman does.

Indrid Cold is a very obscure paranormal entity, but he seems to be related to not just mothman but the men in black. Same time and place as some of the most famous MIB sightings, and also there was a correlation between Indrid Cold and UFO sightings in point pleasant

In the movie 'The Mothman's Prophecy', I do not remember when during the movie but Richard Gere receives a call from a certain 'Ingrid Cold', I think it is related to the Mothman directly.

Nice little cameo of the "Smiling Man" in this game. Even if he does not show up later or actually references future content his addition to 76 is enough for people to make theories, sometimes the best thing about mysteries afterall is the fact that they are, of course, mysteries.

You can actually see the smiling man in the top middle of the scoreboard, maybe RIP said something about him in chapter 2?
