If you get a degree in anything other than math, science and engineering, medicine or an in demand specialty you are wasting your time and money. A degree in Ethnic Studies or Sociology, there are no jobs other than government of one level or another.

Not only because it will hurt the economy very badly, but because people would STILL "invest" their money THAT THEY DON'T HAVE in something that only goes down in value (a college degree). I was at a dinner party last week and a millennial was there and she lives in a trailer she bought for $6500. She pulls it around to where she wants to live and rents a Uhaul when she wants to move it.She was telling me that school was so affordable when I went to school but we ruined it for her generation.
I said the government ruined it for you. And we had the same control and influence that you have now and what are you doing to change things? We lived our lives in the structure that was provided to us.
She went to a private school where an under graduate degree is about $250K. I went to a commuter school, no football, no hockey, and I paid out of pocket and worked fulltime. Cry me a river!

I got a nursing degree at a two yr college, paid in full with scholarship and minimal fees to me. While working two other jobs same time. I'm planning on my bsn paid in full by my own $ or scholarship

Of course, student debt broke its record, parents are forcing their kids to get a degree. I'm taking a programming course online that's thought me more in 3 months than the year I spent in college yet my family is still trying to get me to go to college for a degree.

I know someone who has worked in advertising for schools in Los Angeles. She said the profit margins are outrageous and they can afford to put 50% of revenue into marketing and still make a ton of money.

I just saw an article on CNBC about some Americans leaving the US to go and live in other countries so they can escape their student loan debts. There is something very wrong with the education system when people go to those lengths.

Student loans is a dream killer for the young that would qualify for no other type of loan and do not understand the agreement they are entering.
