If you want to learn Spanish, but are frustrated with traditional methods, this documentary is for you.

In it, Connor Grooms shows how to learn Spanish to a conversational level in a month. It includes his struggles, how he approached things, how much time he spent per day, language learning strategies, two Spanish conversations, and more. This language learning documentary is the best explanation of how to learn spanish for beginners.

In the film, Connor consults with experts Benny Lewis (who shares language learning tips and mindsets), Idahosa Ness (who explains how to learn Spanish pronunciation), and Brian Kwong (who explains how to keep motivated with accountability).

The problem for me is listening to the language and processing the words I'm hearing. I can write Spanish to a certain level, and speak it. But when someone speaks to me in Spanish, I don't hear anything but gobbledegook.

This is a very helpful video. Thank you.

There are actually some nice bits of wisdom in here. But Language is naturally acquired through time, exposure, practice and work. So annoying that people perpetuate myths that you can be fluent in a second language in any given amount of time (a week, a month, 6 months...etc). Nobody wants to put in the time and almost everyone gets frustrated. Stay motivated and be patient and put in the effort and you'll be fine.

I learned something. I learned expressing yourself helps you learn quicker, WAY quicker, than perfection. Thank you for that!

I love this. After 2 weeks of hard work of learning Spanish with superb fancy methods and pushing yourself to limits, when asked "Y aqui con quien esta?" you answer "Por 4 meses".

The problem that I have with this strategy is that knowing grammar is essential for understanding what another person is saying. Often pronouns are dropped in Spanish especially, so knowing basic verb conjugation is necessary to know who the subject is

I started studying Spanish two weeks ago after 10 years of not using it. It's exciting just to understand your simple conversation at the restaurant.

17:55 I totally agree. People are too worried about being perfect. When a spanish speaker is learning spanish and they speak with me the first thing they say is "my english is not good"....but I am understanding them just fine. Great video.

Awesome documentary. I tried hacking salsa and thought I'd be great in 6 months. Also went to Colombia for immersion after 3 months of dancing here in Bali. I did 2hr private classes a day, + solo practice, + watching videos of the master dancers, + listening to the music, and of course social dancing in the evening (real practice). After 6 months I was "conversationally fluent" on the dance floor. I wasn't amazing by any sense of the imagination, still looked like a gringo, but was passionate like crazy. Now 3 years in, have been social dancing every single day (few days missed only) since starting and am still learning a ton each day. Now going to Colombia again (pandemic permitting) and have studied your material and that of some other language hackers. Fantastic stuff. I've got myself set up for fluency in 3 months (I didn't have time for Spanish learning when I was in Colombia as my full focus was on salsa). Cheers for your work, loved it

I've had spanish for over two years at school and I'm close to failing it if I don't improve. My teacher wanted my class to learn ALL the grammar from start despite that fact I have absolutely no vocabulary in spanish. I've learned close to nothing in those years so in order to pass spanish I want to use some of your advice and teach myself spanish instead. I have 5 months to get somewhat fluent, wish me luck! :P

I love this documentary so much! this must have been the 6th time I´ve watched it and I already speak Spanish, but I use it as motivation when learning other languages. so inspirational!!

That first comment by Benny was gold, and outlines my approach when I teach and learn languages. I currently speak a total of 5 languages (3 completely fluently, 2 adequately), and I teach in 3.

Definitely want to look further into Benny. I didn't realize there were other people out there who also shared my belief of only needing minimal grammar to reach a B1 level.

Awesome documentary... Only problem is, not everyone can afford to have such a good team of teachers.

Fascinating. I have on and off studied/spoken Spanish for about 15 years, and it was still tough for me to understand the natives in this video. Suffice to say, I'm really impressed that you were able to learn words AND sounds sufficiently enough to have a conversation with such a short amount of time studying. Well done.

17:44 Is spot on! perfection stops us from improving. Learn to communicate first and then you can perfect your grammar, vocabulary and way of expressing things. Thanks for this beautifully done documentary, Connor.

You can't learn when you're frustrated bra. You learn much better when you're having fun and making mistakes.
