I've owned Quest 1, 2 and Pro so have some experience with this now. The main questions to consider ara a) do you only play standalone, or will you also be using PCVR, and b) do you have access to fast and unlimited internet?

First off, its important for newcomers to know what happens to your games if not installed, and what happens if you run out of space.
All of your games purchased will be visible in your headset, the only difference is installed games have PLAY next to them and uninstalled games have INSTALL next to them, meaning you must install before you play.
Game saves are stored on the cloud so if you uninstall a game you won't lose access to your save data, just reinstall it when you want it, and it comes back with the saves preserved.

If you have fast internet installing games is trivial. I'm in the UK and I have over 500 mb/s download speed. This means a game like Red Matter 2, at around 12 GB would take just over 3 minutes to download. The largest game on the Quest store currently, I believe is Medal of Honour at 43 GB. My internet would download that in around 11 minutes. Most games are still well under 2 GB, and of the games that are large, most of them you would be better playing on PC anyway.

For me, Quest 3 is the first time I'm going with the smaller size. I have learnt my lesson. I find the install/uninstall as trivial as dragging files onto a USB stick and even though I have 256GB on my Pro, I still get into the habit of removing games I don't play just to keep the device clean and minimal. I find having too many games like having too many clothes in my wardrobe, it's hard to choose.

If you only plan on playing standalone, and you buy a large number of games and you want to play them all at once, then 512 GB is the better option. But if you have a core of 6 or 7 games that you always play, Beat Saber, Pistol Whip, Puzzling Place, FitXR for me, and a then have one or two single player adventure type games on the go and play them to completion, you can easily get by with 128 Hb providing you're happy to uninstall, for example, Red Matter, A Fisherman's Tale, Moss, Medal of Honour etc once you have completed them, knowing you can download them again any time in the future in around 5 to 10 minutes.

It's fine to buy the 512GB, just don't buy it out of a fear of running out of space. If you view your headset like a USB stick type device that houses only your current go to games, rather than an archival storage device that must have enough room to store every game you have ever bought all at the same time then you will absolutely fine with 128 GB. You probably don't buy a new kitchen table if you do a Jigsaw puzzle on it, you likely just put the puzzle away after completion. If you're happy to tidy kids toys away, keep you wardrobes and drawers in good order, then the same housekeeping can apply to your headset.

As a 64gb Quest 2 user i immediately went for the 512 this time. Initially Quest games were only 1-3gb each so it made sense. Then the system heavy hitters came and i always feel like im playing memory card tetris when i wanna switch up what i have installed. I like having all my apps available in a single touch, especially if im trying to share experiences with other people.

I’m honestly good with the 128gb. I don’t need 50 games on there just to only play like 3 or 4 of them. And I typically dedicate my time to one at a time. Games don’t typically go above 10gb except for a few

I'd really like to get the 512GB but $150 is just too much money for it.

Personally I'm disappointed that the Quest 3 doesn't allow memory cards to extend the storage of the system. I'd love to get the 512gb model but I think I'm going to have to go with the 128gb once I do decide to upgrade as these headsets are becoming expensive 😅😢

As a 128gb user on quest 2, I definitely went for the 512gb just because I don’t want to deal with the annoyance of managing space constantly every time a game comes out. There are atleast 7 games I can think of that I will want downloaded at all times like contractors, onward, beat saber, re4, saints and sinners, blade and sorcery and stride. Plus any new game that comes out. 128gb simply just isn’t enough by todays standard, accessories can wait but storage is forever. Don’t skimp out.

Remember what they did with the Quest 2 64gb, bringing out the 128gb version for the same price soon after, so beware. Gone for the 512gb myself, can’t wait!

Lile some have said, i expect most games to come in at 10gb max. I only ever play 2 to 3 games at one time, sometimes just 1 if its awesome. So 128gb for me.

I had the 64gb quest 2 and never had an issue.

For you it makes sense to get the bigger. For me the smaller one is fine. Usually commit to 2 or 3 games at a time anyway. Also mostly play at home and can uninstall and install pretty fast. Cant wait! 😍

I mainly use my Quest for PCVR 90% of the time so I decided to go with the 128. I will just install and uninstall what I want on the headset when I need or want it just like I have been doing with my Quest 2.

Asgard's Wrath having 25gigs is not an issue (40gb is just your assumption. Games don't grow 2 times bigger 2 months before release). And 25gigs is not an issue because the game is an RPG with 50 hours of gameplay. Average VR game is nowhere near that amount of content. And still, you could fit four 25gb games on 128gig quest. An average Quest 2 game (that isn't just a tech demo) is around 5gb. Even if every single game grows 2 times bigger (it won't), you can still fit at least 10 games on your quest 3. I don't know anyone playing 10 games at once :D. And keeping your finished games installed is kinda silly imo :D. Although I do get the sentiment. Especially if it's a really good game.

I bought the 64gb and struggled right up to last week when I sold it. If this is going to last me another 3 years, then 512gb version to be on the safe side. Could do with saving the £140 but a few months down the line ill regret it. I like new tech so I can't wait for what we all know will come the 256gb

I got the 128gb version because I'm mostly gonna use it for pcvr.

Honestly, I'm still on the fence about which one to get, since I've been an app hoarder on my Quest 2(225 apps installed 😂). Currently sifting thru my apps to see if I can live with the 128gb Q3. Not having a 256gb option is really my biggest disappointment with the Q3 debut.

Coming from a 256 gig quest2 512 was my choice. Also expecting Q3 enhanced games getting larger file sizes

What's never brought up is updates need space as well. With all the newer features, there will be exponential updates, enhancements or even maybe new features. Pre ordered the 512gb not a second thought.

Only con of the meta quest 3 I notice is not starting at 256gb storage. If they did that imo would’ve been nearly perfect

Memory is super cheap now. There is no way the 512 costs £100 more to manufacture than the 128. I ordered the 128 version purely because I believe it is much better value for money.

Really think 512gb is the only option for alot of gamers unless you use it mainly for pcvr.the thing is when you get close to filling the storage it can start to cause problems with just running the quest.i just dont understand charging £150 more for just under 400gb extra storage, its either greed or their selling the 128gb one at a greater loss

If I’m able to store 3 to 5 games at a time, I’ll be ok with the 128g version. I’ll be using mine at my house so I don’t mind deleting and installing games.
