Ancient Syria was a region referred to often in the Bible. In one well-known account, the apostle Paul cited the “road to Damascus”—the largest city in Syria—as the place where he had visions that led to his Christian conversion. When the Roman Empire fell, Syria became part of the Eastern or Byzantine Empire. In 637 A.D., Muslim armies defeated the Byzantine Empire and took control of Syria. Islam spread quickly throughout the region, and its different factions rose to power. Abdullah Ibn Umar R reports that the Prophet S made the following supplication: “Oh Allah! Bless our Sham! Oh Allah! Bless our Yemen.” The people of Najd said, “And also our Najd?” The Prophet S supplicated again: “Oh Allah! Bless our Sham! Oh Allah! Bless our Yemen.” The people said again, “And also our Najd?” The Prophet S said, “(Najd) It is the place of earthquakes and tribulations. The horn of the Devil will appear from there.”

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
"It will turn out that you will be armed troops, one in Syria🇸🇾, one in Yemen🇾🇪, and one in Iraq🇮🇶. Ibn Hawalah said: Choose for me, Messenger of Allah, if I reach that time. He replied: Go to Syria, for it is Allah’s chosen land, to which His best servants will be gathered, but if you are unwilling, go to your Yemen, and draw water from your tanks, for Allah has on my account taken special charge of Syria and its people"

(Sunan Abi Dawud, Book 15, Hadith 2483.)

Shaddad ibn Aws narrates that the Prophet ﷺ said;

"The most superior way of asking for forgiveness from Allah is to say the following dua.

If somebody recites it during the day with firm faith in it,
and dies on the same day before the evening,
he will be from the people of Paradise;
And if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it,
and dies before the morning,
he will be from the people of Paradise.”

اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لا إِلَهَ إِلا
أَنْتَ خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُك
وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ
أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ
أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ
وَأَبُوءُ لَكَ بِذَنْبِي
فَاغْفِرْ لِي فَإِنَّهُ لا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلا أَنْتَ

Allahumma anta Rabbi la ilaha illa
Anta Khalaqtani wa ana abduka,
wa ana ‘ala ahdika wa wa’dika mastata’tu,
A’udhu bika min Sharri ma sana’tu,
abu’u Laka bini’matika ‘alaiya,
wa Abu’u Laka bidhanbi
faghfirli fainnahu la yaghfiru adhdhunuba illa anta

O Allah! You are my Lord! None has the right to be worshipped but You.
You created me and I am Your slave,
And I am faithful to my covenant and my promise as much as I can.
I seek refuge with You from all the evil I have done.
I acknowledge before You all the blessings You have bestowed upon me,
And I confess to You all my sins.
So I entreat You to forgive my sins,
for nobody can forgive sins except You.

(Sahih Al-Bukhari)

If one of you finishes from the last Tashahud,
Then he should seek refuge with Allah from four things:
he says:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ،
مِنْ عَذَابِ القَبْر،
وَمِنْ عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ،
وَمِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَحْيَا وَالْمَمَاتِ،
وَمِنْ شَرِّ فِتْنَةِ الْمَسيحِ الدَّجَّالِ

Allaahumma ‘innee a’oothu bika,
min ‘adhaabil-qabr,
wa min ‘adhaabi Jahannam,  
wa min fitnatil-Mahyaa wal Mamaat,
wa min sharri Fitnatil-Maseehid-Dajjal

O Allah, I take refuge in You,
From the punishment of the grave,
And from the torment of the Fire,  
And from the trials and tribulations of life and death,
And from the evil affliction of Al-Maseeh Ad-Dajjal
