How to remove Cortana from Windows 10 (task manager, taskbar, & start menu)

Many people are not a fan of the Microsoft Assistant Cortana in the Windows 10 operating system. You might be happy to hear that you can kick Cortana to the curb by removing that component from the Windows 10 operating system. In this video, Wes will show you how to quickly disable and remove Cortana from your Windows 10 taskbar, task manager, and start menu.

How to remove Cortana from Windows 10 for the current user, in an administrative Powershell enter:
Get-AppxPackage *Microsoft.549981C3F5F10* | Remove-AppxPackage

How to remove Cortana from Windows 10 for all users in an administrative Powershell enter:
Get-appxpackage -allusers *Microsoft.549981C3F5F10* | Remove-AppxPackage

This is a lifesaver! I always unintentionally click Cortona because it's pinned in my taskbar. Worse is that once opened, I couldn't close it anymore. Today I had the time to fix my laptop and this worked. Thank you so much!

Thank you. That is one pest out of the way. There are others that need to go too, but Uninstall is non-functional on them too. I'll have to find the commands for them too.

everything is great BUT how to remove icon for all users?
for example i use VDI machines, every user after login gets this dead icon on bottom, many stupid questions and headache cuz of this from our iqless users, could u please advice me HOW to remove icon on machine for all users???

Excellent video thank you! I have Windows 10 Home Edition and was able to remove Cortana from my Administrator Account and completely disappeared. Problem is I have 1 local account and and Cortana still shows up on that account but says "disabled" when you click on it.

1. Is there a way to remove everything Cortana related just like it did on my Admin Account?

2. I always use a total of 2 accounts...1 Admin Account and 1 Local User account. The major problem I can't solve after endless efforts is figuring out how to copy the system settings from the Admin Account to the Local Account. This would save a ton of time not having to configure the settings for 2 different accounts. Do much easier if I could just create the Admin Account, adjust all my settings, then create a local account and copy all the settings over from the Admin Account. Is this possible and if so where can I find the instructions?

3. Is there a way to save the Admin Account system settings in windows 10 home edition to an external hard drive and/or back them? All backup options I've read about do not offer the ability to backup settings. Rather it is documents, files, ect.. but not windows system settings.

It’s so unfortunate that one has to go through these steps to protect kids!

Is there not a way to disable Cortana? I don’t mean hide it. I mean disable it completely. Otherwise its’ search features completely bypass parental controls, very sadly. Unless there is a workaround I will have to stop using windows 10.

this is what i do to remove it permanently (mine Windows 10 Pro version 2004 - just installed 3/10/20):

1. install Ultra Virus Killer

2. IMPORTANT NOTE: pls do a backup 1st b4 go to REGEDIT!!

3. open REGEDIT as ADMINISTRATOR!!

a. Search

(1) under AllowCortana, AllowCortanaAboveLock & AllowCortanaToUseLocation --> set value data to 0 (default should be 0)

(2) add 2 new registery entry--> right click --> new --> QWORD (64-bit) Value

(i) DisableCortana --> set value data to 1

(ii) --> set value data to 1

4. go to C Drive --> Windows --> SystemApps --> Search for Microsoft.Windows.Cortana folder, right click & force delete using Ultra Virus Killer

5. Open Edit Group Policy --> Computer Configuration --> Administrative --> Windows Components --> Search

a. Disable all --> Allow Cloud Search, Allow Cortana, Allow Cortana above lock screen, Allow Cortana Page in OOBE on an AAD account &
Allow search and Cortana to use location

6. Restart

7. Check again Cortana at Task Manager, Settings & C Drive --> still exist??
