Charles Dickens' classic novel 'A Tale Of Two Cities' tells the story of the French Doctor Manette, his 18-year-long imprisonment in the Bastille in Paris, and his release to live in London with his daughter Lucie whom he had never met. The story is set against the conditions that led up to the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror.

Our Mutual Friend and Dombey & Son are my favorites.

The visual adaptation is rather over the top . Like some other viewers l believe a reading would have achieved more . I am Dickens fan but l cannot say that "Two cities " ranks highly, especially as his later novels are such a tour de force. I think the first lines are very memorable and as one of the academics said....it's a summary of the dualism of the work in this improbable love story.

Why does it need to be explained? It is a good story. Why do certain people feel the need to overthink things?

Frankly, it’s an exhausting read. The beginning is painfully slow. My problem with this book is that it took too long to get to the point, and, in my opinion, a very disappointing one. The dialogues are sometimes repetitive. Most of the characters are unlikeable. Most of the situations and “coincidences” are unlikely to happen. Stick to Bleak House or Hard Times.
