On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a 40-year-old decision that instructed courts to defer to federal agencies when laws aren't clear.

The Chevron decision has been in place since 1984. It has been the precedent that has upheld many regulations set by federal agencies. The Supreme Court has thrown out that decision on a 6-to-3 vote.

This is not a win for conservatives, it’s a win for everyone.

In a democracy or a representative republic, the part of government that enacts the laws is supposed to be directly accountable to the people by standing for election. When de facto lawmaking is transferred into the hands of unelected bureaucrats with lifetime civil service tenure, that is about as anti-democratic as you can get. Or . . . in the case of the United States . . . flat-out unconstitutional. I'm surprised it took this long to be overturned.

If federal agencies didn’t abuse their authority so frequently, maybe this never gets to court.

Wisconsin needs a federal agency to tell them to remove lead water pipes? Government acknowledged even small amounts of lead is harmful in 1970. 50 plus years later. What is wrong with Wisconsin residents.? Get off u but* and move elected officials or kick them out. Residents should have taken Wisconsin to court. Take responsibility you are in charge not elected officials. What good is the EPA 40 yrs later u still have lead water pipes, so what not a really good government branch.

We, the people, have the ability to hold our reps accountable. If they don't vote the way we want we get someone else. The alphabet agencies are not to make laws, the congress does. The executive branch is supposed to enforce the laws passed by the people. The judicial ensures the laws are constitutional. The checks and balances of the three branches is what is supposed to keep us on the right track. Any "law" that has been made by an agency needs to be over turned right now and congress needs to pick up the banner.

Lead has been present in Wisconsin for thousands of years...overturning a 40-year-old decision isn't to blame.

Agencies cannot make the rules that they enforce. They took it too far and had to be reeled in. That's it.

Good. Glad to see at least one of our checks and balances still works. Legislative, Executive and Judicial. They are NOT supposed to be rubber stamping agencies for dictatorial amalgamation absorbing power and control. The only legitimate function of 3 letter agencies is enforcement of laws created by the legislators, approved by the executive chief(President) and scrutinized by the Judicial. That is if these agencies should even exist at all.

Wow… haven’t heard about Chevron since law school in 2008. But we heard a lot about it then. This is big.

Keep going. Lobby your elected representatives to do their job and pass laws that actually help and are effective. Unelected unaccountable bureaucrats are the worst. Decades overdue.

If the law is not clear the regulators get to decide....how can any citizen not get caught if the law isn't clear enough in what it means that we can know if we break it our not?

now to allow citizens to sue over the wrongful deaths, incarcerations, and seized property.

... I really must ask ...

Is there any reason to avoid removing the lead from the drinking water, just because the regulation has been relaxed?
Coz it sounds like the only reason you care about the lead in the drinking water, is if a regulation makes you care ... are you sure that's how you want the optics to look?

You people think we’re that stupid God Almighty WFT is wrong with you? I don’t know if you realize but our federal agencies have been able to run rampant on the constitution and on human rights for the past 30 years and what this decision does is it makes it easier for an individual to have their God-given rights

This report is bias and condescending to the High Courts Ruling. I hope this full will have a huge impact on agencies like the ATF, FBI and IRS.

The unelected ABC agencies were out of control because of Chevron deference, e.g., the ATF infringing 2A rights by adding restrictions never authorized by Congress. This case doesn't stop regulation, but maybe it brings back some much needed constitutional balance.

We have to maintain a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan SWPPP for our lower gradient property. We were told by our Environmental Engineer, that we were responsible for our neighbor's polluted storm water coming onto our property and that we would have to take measures i.e. build a concrete wall at our expense I live in NYS Will we be able to contest this in court, as a result of the Chevron Decision ?
