What's below the tip of the iceberg? - Camille Seaman

Показать описание

It's a well-known fact that the majority of an iceberg lies below the surface -- but just as stealthily hidden are their fascinating qualities. Traveling the seas, teeming with life, and sometimes even making a noise called "bergie seltzer," there's so much more than meets the eye. Camille Seaman gives homage to these icy isles.

Lesson by Camille Seaman, animation by Bottomless Well Films.

Somehow i find the underwater portion creepy, like the Mario 64 iceberg, there are names for each height
•tip of the iceberg
•below the surface
•bottom of the iceberg
•dark water
• *t h e a b y s s*

Im mostly scared of the abyss

"young ice fish hide in small ice holes to avoid ice predators" should've been the line @ 4:05

The metric system is the scale predominately used for scientific purposes. A good percentage of the viewers are interested in the science behind icebergs, thus the use of a scientific measurement system.

You can craft blue ice from packed ice, Minecraft.

Because not all of the ice is in the ocean. Most of the icebergs are still attached to masses of land and they freeze hundreds of feet above sea level. When they melt, the water runs to the ocean and is thus added to the total number of water. Imagine I'm holding an ice cube above a cup of water in my hands. As the cube melts, the water falls into the cup, adding to the total amount of water.

There is one, it's called Chasing Ice. Pretty interesting!

Why are the icebergs shown here in animation taller than they are wide? I expect that, just like an ice cube in a glass, they would tend to rotate to float so they are wider than they are tall. Also, if the blue ice is compressed, ie dense, would the blue tend to stay lower in the water? The animation showed the blue flipping to be on top. I would have thought it would have rotated down, not up.
I hope you can answer these questions. They appear to be mistakes in the video at this point.

Excellent informative video. Just to be picky; minute 4:22: Orcas are not whales.

Why are icebergs so often drawn floating vertically? Wouldn't the center of buoyancy want to be as high as possible. A bar of soap doesn't float vertically in the tub.

But what happens to all the lifeforms
dependent on the iceberg when it is completely molten?

they should make an iceberg documentary

I wonder why there's a short sample of splashing water looping the entire way through the video from 00:19 until the ending credits. I'd love to know how such a bizarre thing can happen by mistake.
