South Africa's #apartheid government built #nuclear weapons in the 1970's because they were worried about #Soviet expansion into Africa. In the 90's, President F W de Klerk dismantled them. Why did #SouthAfrica get rid of its nuclear weapons?

South Africa has the best nuclear scientist. At varsity we used our own notes when we learned about nuclear scientist.

"How did they build nuclear weapons?" Once you have enriched uranium a Hiroshima type "Little Boy" bomb is a no brainer. The design is so simple and assured it wasn't even tested before the US used it against Japan. 100% of the problem is obtaining enriched uranium, and a country with uranium mines and any industry can achieve this.

P.W. Botha said that they developed the bomb, to be dropped on Luanda, if the war in Angola went badly wrong.
But when SA started the nuclear bomb program in 1974, Angola was still under Portuguese control. South Africa did not get involved in Angola until 1975.
