Many do not know AFRICA used to have NUKES #shorts

Everybody knows that the continent of Africa currently has no nukes

But what if I told you that wasn’t always the case?

In fact, there was an African nation that had a fully fledged nuclear program at one point in time

This nation in question is South Africa.

So what happened to their nuclear bomb program anyway?

In the late 90’s South Africa had 6 nuclear complete nuclear warheads under their flag

but seemingly out of the blue, the nation decided to change directions

South African congress held a vote, and they ultimately ruled in favor of putting their NUCLEAR program into reverse, and disarming their nukes.

And then in 2019 they, even joined the Treat on the Prohibition of Nuclear weapons, so show they are actively against NUCLEAR weapons

Props to South Africa for taking such a bold position.

But unfortunately it doesn’t look like other nations are going to follow suit.

During the French colonization era, France did stocked nukes in Algeria, and used to perform its nuclear test here, in the southern part (the one who is in the middle of the Sahara desert). During the Algerian independency war, a part of the French army betrayed the French government, and tried to make a coup. They tried to rob a nuke, and the French secret service had to evacuate it in emergency. The details are still classified, but aparently it was evacuated in a small 2CV car.
After the failed coup — and obviously even more after the Algeria independance who happened few years after — France stopped stocking its nukes in Africa.

Personally I would only get rid of the nuked every country agrees but then somehow keep a few nukes in private but agreed to never use unless another countries uses them after the agreement
