Q : Teachers have recommended various paths for spiritual progress. How does one choose?

Sri M says, that the nature of people are different and people have different kinds of minds. There may be a basic thing which is the mind's character, anger, joy and so on but being brought up in different places and different ways, everybody thinks differently and each person's character and nature is different. So, he says that there must be different paths for different people depending on the nature of their of mind, where they may be intellectually oriented or people who follow their hearts. But beyond the path chosen, most important, he says, is regular practice - 'Nairantarya Abhyasena'...constant, unending practice.

This session is an excerpt from the Satsang at The Peepal Grove School, which took place in December 2019.

Practice kriya yoga regularly everyday.

What I have learnt, is living your daily life a spiritual way is very important. We shouldn't just practice Kriya Yoga or any Sadhana as a mechanical activity, and live the rest of the day as we like. Then we may not get results. How our thought patterns work throughout the day is immensely important.

I got initiation in to Kriya nine years ago. Attended several satsangs. But could not so far become disciplined in life. Initially I was a deeply devoted practitioner and could always keep a part of my mind and heart at the Supreme Reality. I was a heavy smoker and used to take drinks and I stopped both. Later I slipped down and evening drinks came back in place of my evening sadhana. I do Kriya and meditation in the morning every day. Every night I wove not to drink from the next day, but it just gets postponed. I could study and understand a lot durning the nine years of practice, except how to get rid of some of my habits which affect the progress. This is a confession at the lotus feet of Gurudev Babaji.

Paramahansa Yogananda said Kriya is the air plane path when comparing the normal human evolution of several million years to attain the highest. PY also says one has to practice Kriya for I think 8 hours a day for 30 years to attain the highest ( something around this time ). So it depends how you look at it.
