I was honestly shocked to see how non-accessible many of the metro stations in Berlin were. So many didn't have lifts and indeed, the ones with lifts were either out of operation or located in awkward areas making it a trek to the platforms.

Oh, the "wheelchair" app I known since many years. Was installed on my older smartphones of course. Since Google Map accepted information do you can write it inside there too. Do not forgetting that they have many handicapped toilets in Berlin (and other cities) too. 😮

This is so cool! I always love seeing people helping others out, but it sucks that there isn’t some legislation that requires wheelchair accessibility

It honestly sucks the elevators are often broken and a lot of train stations don’t even have elevators 😓

The have a fleet of mini vans that will pick you up and transport you to the next station with a functioning elevator.
It's called MUVA and it's free, including the phone number to call.

Why wasn't that mentioned?

Can't see the subtitles on mobile as the subscription button hides it!

Berlin is incredibly ablist. There are very few benches and museums have nowhere near sit, so you're screwed if you can't stand for long. Some of the museums have those seats you can carry around that are incredibly unstable. Do better.

And an app doesn't exactly improve access, does it...

That’s so sad it’s so restrictive. Especially considering the history of persecution and slaughter of disabled people.

Yeah, in the entirety of Germany... Which has 82 million people. There's around 3 million people in Berlin alone. So the wheelchair users are pretty rare. Still, good thing they did with the app. But as I have seen first hand, older Germans (generation 90's and older) will help you out if you ask for help. The youth in the other hand is quite disappointing, self centered and a bunch of uncouth children who haven't been taught manners by their parents but gangster rap and the streets sadly. 😢
