Skill Builder Minute - Advantages of Pre-Recording Your Webinar

Hi -- I'm Don Cameron, founder of ConferTel, and in this Webinar Skill Builder Minute I'm going to suggest why you might want to pre-record -- rather than record -- your webinar.

After investing significant resources planning a webinar, recruiting a subject matter expert, promoting the webinar and hosting it, it's a good idea to give your content "legs" by following webinar replay best practices. A high quality recording can help generate a greater return on your webinar investment by extending the reach and lifecycle of the content, getting it in front of attendees and non-attendees alike.

Now, the majority of registrants who don't attend a webinar cite other priorities as the reason, rather than lack of interest. Knowing this means you have a second chance to reach them, but it also raises the stakes for you to provide the highest quality and most effective webinar replay.

So the point I'm making, is that a recording of the live event may not be the best format for after-the-event viewers, as compared to a pre-recorded, on-demand presentation. Alternatively, you may wish to work with your presenter to record a more concise, scripted version of the webinar and distribute it as an "on-demand webinar." A 45-minute webinar can often be summarized in a 15-minute presentation. And assuming the webinar registrant was pressed for time to begin with, they will appreciate the short version.

This approach also allows you to label the slides and sections to allow viewers to easily navigate and refer back through the content over time, and can enable you to access in-depth viewer analytics such as which slides or sections were viewed, how often and in what order.

A well-prepared online video presentation can and should also be used to gather leads. Post it up on You Tube amongst other sites. You can use a registration form or "guest book" that viewers need to complete prior to viewing. This not only helps you acquire leads, but with the accompanying viewing data analysis, it also enables you to
prioritize the follow-up activity.
