Gonna write a Thread Fic where Coley reads fanfic of herself and instantly regrets it

I admire threadfic writers who write fanfic on twitter despite the hellish restrictions.
I could never.

threadfics are so fun to read honestly because youre watching someone livewrite their fic AND get to comment on it, even influence the fic via polls and in a memorable occasion a bts interactive threadfic was a fandom wide hyped event it was amazing to experience

Another unforseen issue with threadfics: the writer getting suspended. Twitter Support is, I'm convinced, entirely automated. People get suspended for reasons unknown, based on mass reports or the content of the tweet, you could get your account locked or suspended on a dime. That's why it's recommended to repost the thread fic onto other platforms like AO3 or a simple Google Doc.

as someone who despises twitter with a SCORCHING passion this amuses me. cant wait to see what would possibly make me bear this website just a bit.

In my country, threadfics are a popular format of fanfiction in fandom spaces. Although they often call it AUs and they're more focused on a social media AU / chatfic structure, I think it's the accessibility and easiness of reading through the thread that makes threadfics really popular here.

Heck, even some of these threadfics are able to be made into physical copies of novels (though there was some controversy regarding the ethics of this lol).

having focused on the threadfic format, please do a deep dive on social media aus too! I feel like the world of twitter fanfiction is not summed up by threadfics in the text medium as the social media au format in twitter seems to be extremely popular and even more common in some fandoms like kpop, and as someone who writes them, how to make one is its own type of horrible beast 😄

I think the thread fics feel like less of a commitment and less daunting. Its easy to get into a fic when it just started & over time get the updates. When a fic has long been finished & hundreds of chapters, it can be good, but its also a thing of “oh man this is so much that I have to dedicate”. I like dedicating time to read long fics and sometimes I dont have the time. A thread fic being bite sized feels easy to get into.

One of my favourite things about threadfics is the phenomenon (? I think that’s the right word) where people add their own little idea for it and the author comes back and writes a mini threadfic with that idea in the comments of the comment

honestly whats interesting to me is that it's really popular with new ships. i started reading threadfics for sakuatsu, which in comparison to the rest of the major haikyuu ships, it's really new and there are soo many threadfics you can find on twt. a new ship that i'm really into is haikaveh/kavetham and they're a new genshin ship that's only been around since like sept 2022, if even that. and you can type in just the ship name and you'll find a HUGE amount of threadfics

I will always respect threadfic writers and their choice of platform but I can't deny that I always sigh in relief every time they end/QT their fic with "thanks for reading!! Soon to be cleaned up and uploaded/compiled on Ao3!! <3"
