At home we ad a little piece of onion, a couple of garlic cloves, some cilantro, a pinch of kitchen salt, and just a teeny tiny bit of water, and we let them cook at medium heat until tender.

Try adding the nopales to pico de gallo, then wrap it up in a tortilla with queso fresco and a chicharron! Amazing stuff

As a Mexican-Am, thank you for teaching me what a penca is 😅😂. I've heard the word penca my whole life and never bothered to learn what it is.

My parents (particularly my dad) would put me to do the horrid chore of cleaning the nopales whenever the nopal had enough. I hated geting splinters in my hands and my nopales always ended up a third of the size of what they originally were. This brought back the memories.

We boil ours and strain. The slime juice is a great tonic for stomach pain, about a 1/2 cup. Healing.

I remember making Achiote Shrimp and your Day of the dead bread from your cooking show back on PBS. Good memories made me love making Mexican food 🥘.

I just clean them, cut them through the middle, but not all the way ( like a Hawaiian skirt lol) broiled them, & eat them with queso fresco on a tortilla. This is to eat all the benefits of the cactus. 🌵❤
