Obscure but Beautiful Abstract Algebra Book from the 1960s

This is a beautiful out of print book the 1960s. I spent a great deal of time using this book for self study. I used other books as well, but I did find a lot of good information in this book and I do think it is worth having. The book is called A First Course in Abstract Algebra and it was written by Paley and Weichshel.

Note the book has some really negative reviews on amazon. I think this book deserves at least 4 stars.

I can no longer find the book in this video, here is another one that is excellent

Obscurity and beauty. It is weird how often these two things are in the same thing. :)

Wow! I actually used chapter 2 of that book for a Number Theory class last semester. It is really good :)

Intersting, a lot of people have very negative views of this book.
For Under $10 I'm all in though.
3:00 I'm all for this. I love a book I can look at a section and say that interesting.
Then getting a little challenge, and calling it a night.

Can you find a set A such that:
(A')' is non empty set
((A')')' is empty set
Where, A' is derived set of A

I agree that the notation af for function application is horrible. I suspect they're trying to match af = y to the function "type spec" f : A –> B, when it would make more sense to write f : B <– A to match y = f(a). It may seem silly, but in my mind's eye, I see argument a (of type A) passing leftwards through function f and out pops y (of type B)! It also makes the bookkeeping for function composition easier. With g : C <– B and f : B <– A, it's easy to see that (g o f) : C <– A. (I guess they use the same reasoning for their permutation multiplication order. Fraleigh switched to the usual notation for function application and perm multiplication in the 4th edition of his book.) Anyway, that's my two cents' worth! Nice videos :)

Nice video,
Can you also recommend a book for beginners ( people with calculus experience ) on group theory ? I really want to study it...

I'm planning to buy this book. Does it need any prior knowledge beyond what you got in 12th?

I wish math books had better names. Like there's a buncha books named 'a first course in ...', 'introduction to ...' or simply 'x' where x is the name of a random math subject.
