Hi, please, could you compare the new MBP 16"with the iMac 5K with upgraded CPU and GPU? Thank you!

How will the macbook handle working in After Effects? Also, how does it do running multiple applications at once (for example, if I have Photoshop, After Effects, & Premiere open at the same time)?

For FCPX I don't think your comparisons are taking into account the actual load on the GPU. If you pull up activity monitor GPU history when you're doing the BruceX tests and exports, you will see that the 16" MBP actually doesn't use the dedicated GPU on export, even with prerender disabled. That's why you're seeing erratic results. Is that BruceX ProRes or H264 Export? My guess is the 16" MBP is using the T2 chip and or quicksync to crunch out these effects rather than the GPU. I did a bunch of tests and the 16" MBP GPU behaves differently from my 2017 15" MBP GPU.

You should run the Puget System Benchmark for Premiere Pro and Davinci Resolve when you review laptops. It helps put them in context with many more machines. Not only do the reviews are Puget run them, but I've noticed some other YouTube reviewers using them for desktop parts. People can also run it on the machines they have at home as a point of comparison.

Hi, need your suggestion in choosing between the 2 machines for 4k video editing. 27 inch Imac, 3.7ghz 6 core intel core i5 with 8 gb Radeon pro 580x graphic card with 2 tb fusion drive versus new 16 inch MBP 2.6ghz, 6 core intel core i7 with 4 gb Radeon pro 5300 M graphics card, . Which would u recommend for 4k video editing. In India, we don't get the option of customising our macs. It will be of great help if you could suggest your recommendation. Thank you .

The iMac Pro has HBM2 memory rather than traditional VRAM, which sits on the same package as the GPU for much faster throughput and overall performance with large textures and complex model.
The heavier the task, bigger the performance gap will be between the iMac Pro and that MBP, that’s why for professional work you should get the iMac Pro.
Also, ECC RAM is a Xeon-only, and is much more reliable than standard RAM (a huge deal if you do heavy works with longer renders, and it's way less likely to crash).
And you get pro grade components like the Xeon chip, which is built to work under load for hours without constraints. The better cooling system also helps, it works near silent on a desk even when rendering. You also get way more I/O connectivity.
You get what you pay for.
Greetings.

The iMac Pro has a whole bunch of special high-end features that’s most appropriate for people who use high-end professional apps that have been optimized for Apple’s professional Mac architecture.

Hey Max, interested you know if you had any crashes or thermal issues with the laptop. I was editing some large projects on a spec’d out 15” a few weeks ago and was overheating and crashing constantly, with the new cooling on the 16” I would hope this solved those issues.

Just curious: you suggest getting the 2.3ghz model, but I see so many YouTubers getting the 2.4ghz model (including yourself). As a YouTuber and a consistent video creator myself, why should I not also get this model?

Hey Max, that was a great video - could you do an episode where you look at the editing performance of the 16MBP with eGPU vs the iMac Pro. That would be awesome.

Yes please compare it to the 5K iMac! I loved the comparison on Max Tech, but there weren't tests focused solely on HEVC video, and I think most or many non-professional editors are using that codec, especially since we are just editing the 4K video from our iPhones. I didn't buy the 5K iMac (the most recent model) due to the omission of the T2 chip. I have a feeling that editing will actually be faster on the MBP, specifically with H.265 video. The new macbook is so good that people who are considering the 5K iMac may just get it and plug it into a monitor at home...it'll cost more but then again you could use it around the house or even take it out of the house, which of course isn't an option with the iMac....
