A Guide To Buying Your First Rolex

Let's not beat around the bush, buying your first Rolex watch is a big deal. A very big deal. It's something you need to be prepared for both financially and emotionally. Just over three years ago, I bought my first Rolex--a classic 36mm Datejust--after extremely careful consideration and meticulous research because, well, it was something I did NOT want to screw up.

The entire process took me about nine months and throughout that time I gained *a lot* of knowledge about Rolex watches themselves as well as the emotional arc of going through the process from beginning to end. If you're watching this video, you are probably very much in the same boat that I was, so I put together my best advice, tips, and questions to ask yourself before taking the plunge into that first Rolex watch.

Top level, there are five things to consider:

1. Why buy a Rolex watch?
2. When should you buy your first Rolex?
3. Do your research!
4. New or vintage?
5. Which model Rolex should you buy?

Sweet watch!!! I’m no millionaire, just an average middle class guy with a family. I start getting into automatic watches a few years ago and thought I could never afford a Rolex. Well, I decided to open a watch saving account and start saving. It will take a few years but I will have my Rolex and I plan on passing it down to my son who is 3 years old as I type this✌🏽✌🏽

I really like it when you said to buy "when you are ready". I bought mine on my 48th birthday, a 36mm OP 11600 blue dial. Celebrating a milestone in your life is one great reason to reward yourself with something you like and will wear on your wrist as a reminder that life, despite challenges is one beautiful gift. Good Luck in all your endeavors. Great video by the way.

I've inherited my late grandad's Datejust 36 watch and i love it so much! Its 2 tone with jubilee bracelet, fluted bezel, and roman numerals with diamonds on each marker on a houndstooth patterned dial too which i find is stunning. I do agree to buy new is the best but a pre-owned or vintage timepiece from your family is something else!

I just turned 18 and recently sold my first wholesale contract. Will be buying my first Rolex to serve as my milestone.

This is nice and all but a "watch expert" is in the industry told me to get a battery MVMT. That's the real deal guys 😂

My first Rolex was the 40mm stainless steel, no-date Submariner, with a black bezel and face dial. The perfect watch with a polo shirt or a suit. Good advice. Thanks. 👍🏻

Interesting information, but I have it from a reliable source that MVMT watches are better than Rolex and more cheap too.

Jokes aside, I've been craving a bit for the Cellini more than the other recognizable Rolexes out there. Now I just need the money to acquire one.

36mm Rolex is a perfect size. Especially the one this guy wearing, 36mm Datejust, white dial. It looks so elegant.

I’m looking at the 41mm datejust With the blue dial for my first luxury watch and I think you convinced me to buy new rather than preowned. I tried one on a few months ago and fell in love. I’m new to watching your channel and like it a lot and have of course subscribed. Keep up the great content.

Very helpful, Brian. Although a Rolex is out of my price range, this type of video format is great. Please do more of these.

There are other choices than a “vintage” or “new.” Just like a car there are some watches that have a large markdown when you buy three years old. Clearly there are some Rolex models that only go up in value, there are also some that drop in value. Even if you get a Rolex that is 10-15 years old you can normally buy almost any model for a significant savings. I have two Subs and a GMT Master II. Each watch was 5-10 years old and I purchased each at an appreciable savings. Thanks for the video.

As a first time Rolex owner I recently purchased an 2018 Rolex GMT Master ll Root Beer as my engagement watch for our upcoming wedding and couldn't be happier having this timepiece become a part of our very sentimental wedding story. With that being said we've been posting some reviews-videos while enjoying this amazing experience and wanted to say thank you for your provided knowledge and for creating such great channel-content. Keep up the great work!
