Cormac McCarthy’s The Passenger and Stella Maris Are On Their Way!

After 7 years of eager anticipation, Cormac McCarthy will finally publish his forthcoming novels “The Passenger” and “Stella Maris” this Fall! I give my thoughts and expectations!

OMG I'm so excited!!! :D I've been waiting for The Passenger for years now! And to find out there's a companion piece is just the icing on the cake! McCarthy is my favorite author too, and since this is probably gonna be his last hurrah, I really want it to be good! :)

Though these two novels seem unlike anything he's ever written, it fits in his canon in that it is unusual & strange. He's the greatest living writer and the books will be amazing.

I think there are 2 types of McCarthy readers. Basically the people who have only read The Road (and maybe Old Country, or just seen the movie) and the real readers and fans. For the fans, this new stuff is typical of McCarthy. He takes awhile. He usually works on multiple (or for him, I believe it is actually just one…but they end up being more). Like Blood Meridian and Suttree were worked on at the same time. Many of the same sources were used. Cormac just puts it out there and then it gets formed etc. So for these ‘Road’ fans who are just looking for that, yeah…the books will probably disappoint…and they, in their simple minded way, will say ‘that’s not McCarthy’ but…heh…these books sound TOTALLY like Cormac.
