This may seem pretty obvious, but Riley's outfits seem to change depending on her mood:

- She's first wearing a sweater with multi colored stripes to reflect her childhood and joyful personality, as well as wearing blue jeans.

- On her first day of school, she wears a yellow jacket that's considerably less wild and vibrant than her striped sweater, but she still has some happiness left since yellow basically signifies happiness, warmth, light, and concentration. Her pants are brown however, which is a darker color than her blue jeans. She's sad on the inside about her situation, but tries to hide it and cover it up with her exterior.

- When her depression gets worse, she wears a black jacket and dark jeans, signifying darkness, gloominess, melancholia, and unhappiness, which also becomes apparent to people around her.

San Francisco feel like a happy place to be but however when I watched Inside Out, it makes me now think that San Francisco is nothing but a wasteland of trauma, suffering and despair.
