Halloween, a spooky time of the year when we’re all carving pumpkins, putting on our scary costumes and going out to trick or treat. Halloween is one of America’s favorite holidays, yet, you might be surprised to know, Halloween actually has its roots in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. So how did we adopt this spooky Celtic celebration?

My favorite's are dressing up, trick or treating, telling scary stories, and the little Halloween games. 🍂🍁🎃⚰️🕷️🕷️🍭🍫🇺🇸🇮🇪

2:59 In addition, the ancient Baltics did a similar festival in ancient regions near present-day Russia, believing the same thing. but near Christmas time in winter. Which I believed helped Charles Dickens develop the specters in "A Christmas Carol".

I think the documentary of the Real story of Halloween would fit well with this program.

4:55 You left out that during the early 20th century, pranks from immigrant adolescent boys, following old traditions, were becoming destructive and out-of-hand. And among efforts to tame the holiday, homeowners bribed kids out of pranking them with homemade treats, which eventually came in print.

The Celtics “Seltics” is a basketball team; while the Celtics “Keltics” were a very ancient culture that propagated through the British Isles, especially Ireland and Scotland, but also throughout parts of Europe. They had a nature based religion essentially, worshipping the Spirits of Nature but also believing in the Fey Folk, Fairie People of numerous kinds. Also there was belief in powerful gods, and the Otherworld

3:50 The way you describe it, it sounds similar to what the ancient Egyptians did around the same time of year during their Wag Festival, or Feast of Spirits.

2:29 In addition to spirits, didn't they also believe people from other realities of space and time entered their lands as well? Fun fact: one of the specters they believed in was a headless knight on horseback, which became a model for the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow Washington Irving wrote about.

It’s not an American holiday and we don’t say trick or treat in Scotland or Ireland .

Trick or treating has to do with Jack, who went out with his gang to run around taunting and tricking Christians for their All Hallows Eve. They put out Jack O' Lanterns with scary faces to scare Jack away. Hence, trick...or treat.
