A very great trade so sure. What would've made it better if Mega Steelix were available in XY, it would've made Steelix a top contender for teams if that were to be the case.

IT's a shame I didn't find this on my playthrough of X and Y. My team in that game was made of 5 gift pokemon: My greninja starter, a venusaur second starter, a blaizeken from a mystery gift, Korrina's lucario, and a lapras that some rando gave me. Had I traded for this steelix, I could have replaced the only pokemon I naturally caught, a talonflame, and truly become ... IDK.

As cool as it is for him to send a Steelix outright, I think it would have been more interesting, and made more sense to just the trade be a Luvdisc for an Onix, except surprise, it was holding a metal coat, enjoy the Steelix. Same outcome, but would make more sense for why the trainer would trade it, plus it would be a surprise for any who didn’t know, and would not have to question how the fisherman got a Steelix

I'd argue that the toxel for togepi trade in the gen 8 games are even better because while yes togepi is one of the worst pokemon in the entire game it comes with an gurranteed timid nature (+speed - attack), stone and friendship evos are piss easy to get in galar and toxel is a gift pokemon you can get in galar

I shit you not this secret is what saved two of my hardcore nuzlocke runs since there are like 4 places you can get a 100% encounter for luvdisc without risking a wasted encounter
