For Unovan Darmanitan, yes. It goes from a fairly fast physical attacker to a slow, bulky special attacker. For Galarian Darmanitan, it's not as bad. The 60 point boost to its BST go to its speed and physical attack. It goes from 140 attack to 160 and 95 speed to 135.

Schoolgirl hannah is honestly one of the biggest non-gym leader threats in the entire game. Especially because the majority of the pokemon you find on your way to route 3 are either normal or dark type

Oh that's a fun idea! Here's another fun one you might enjoy, beating HGSS with only Johto Pokemon.
It sounds weird until you try it and realise almost all HGSS teams have several Kanto Pokemon since Johto's roster is weird.
But you get to do cool stuff like brutalise Miltank with Heracross and find out that Lanturn is actually really good in Johto playthroughs.
